i think an average sized male is about 85lbs.

85lbs to 95lbs is a big Doberman.

Hum.. I guess my vets have told me that 65lbs is avg for female and 75lb is avg for male. But my first male was 85lb and 28 inches at the shoulder.. my 2nd female is only 49 lbs and about 22 inches at the shoulder. I think when you look at the breed standard they say

"Height at the withers: Dogs 26 to 28 inches, ideal about 27 1/2 inches; Bitches 24 to 26 inches, ideal about 25 1/2 inches. The height, measured vertically from the ground to the highest point of the withers, equaling the length measured horizontally from the forechest to the rear projection of the upper thigh. Length of head, neck and legs in proportion to length and depth of body. "

I use to train dogs mostly sheppards ands dobes and there was this dobe who was Yugoslavian he was 140lbs. solid they were selling the dog for $50,000 ( I guess if you have the money why not, he was never sold while I worked there) they trained him as a crowd control dog beautiful dog, I could never walk him I was only 145lbs. So I think my dobe might be of european decent i've been trying to find out more about this from the web and the breeders (and they are great people we see them every couple of months). European dobes are taller and would be disqualified in american rings. One note for all who have new puppies keep in touch with the breeder so you may know if something is wrong with there dobe or at what age the dobe had something wrong etc... don't read to much into it, it might not happen to your dobe, Just food for thought

we have hard wood floors so when he runs and can't stop you think your legs are going to shatter into a million pieces. My kids love watching him skid on the floor it's funny. (piece of advice spend the extra money to get non marking non scratching floors, we did and we don't have to worry)

Red was a good size dobe. Magnum is just over a year. He was, at one point, 90lbs but has since went down to about 85lbs. He is not a big fan of dog food of any kind.

Apollo is 8 1/2 months old now and weighs 85 lbs. I still don't know if he will get any bigger he's almost 27" tall but if you look at him you could see that he will get a little taller his legs are just a little short for his body size. and his head is still growing. So we'll find out.
