View Full Version : Why do you have a doberman?
I was wondering why each one of you selected a doberman? What made you select this breed over others?

OMG, are you telling me there's other breeds?
Sorry, couldn't help myself!!! LOL
I've been around Dobes since I was about 5 yrs old. My older 1/2 brother had one, and even back then (40 yrs ago) I thought he was just the coolest dog ever.
My very own first Dobe (Amelia) was one my parents had. When I moved out, she became a little unruly and wouldn't mind, so I ended up taking her with me. And the passion began!

Because he landed on my lap the other day ;)
I feel like I won a lottery!!! I have always wanted one, but never took the plunge... now I am hopelessly hooked on Prince and this is the third day he has been here. What a simply amazing breed of dog... although he is always on duty and sleeps with one eye open. I never knew in three short days you could fall in love with a dog so quickly, even though we had a rocky start.

I fell in love with their look before I ever met one. When I was young I saw a pair of them running together (a black and a red) and knew one day I would own one. Then I fell in love with the breed after getting to know them.
Although I admire most breeds of dogs - there isn't another breed for me. Although - I have been admiring my friend new French Bulldog puppy. It's just sooooo smudgy!!!!

Well my first exposure to a Dobe was when I was 5 and he was my protector he wouldn't allow my parents to spank me in his presence. (How cool is that alone when you are 5)! But I can honestly say the breed chose me or to be more specific my wifes Doberman Savage which I call Savage number 1 since we are on #3. He chose me and wanted to be anywhere I was much to my future wifes dismay she called him the traitor we just clicked with each other instantly. So anytime I start my Doberman this my Doberman that she says I'm nuts and I say it's all your fault you started it. ( I know typical man ). LOL.

I use to show Frenchies for Rodney Merry. They are adorable and so much fun, until I was keeping the dog at my home. OH, never again! Without going into it, this little miss piggy was a wolf in a light coat.....she couldn't have caused more mischief and couldn't leave her with any other dog. May not be typical of this breed, but it was enough for me.
Dobermans, please. LOL

I fell hard when I was watching them in the show ring when I was supposed to be working with my Weimaraners. We had one when we were kids at home but OMG there was nothing at all like the regal look of a Red Show Doberman Male with the most beautiful ear crop I had ever seen on a doberman. That is still my goal that beautiful red show doberman so for now I am settling for my beautiful black show dobes. But one of these days.....:D

Hi folks. My grandfather had his first Dobe in Germany when he was 9 years old, and his father had Dobes, too - my grandfather was born in 1902, so the breed was almost brand new then. Anyway, I grew up around Dobes, Boxers and GSD's, (and a GSP), and while I love almost all dogs, the larger German breeds speak to me. Brains, attitude, humor, independent thought, focus, and personality. And Dobes most of all. We had GSD's for about 20 years, and when I wanted a Dobe, David was a bit skeptical - but now, he's head over heels for them. lois

I grew up in a neighborhood filled with beagles and gsd's , beagles were for hunting and the Gsd's were the home guards. One family had a doberman bitch named Lola that always gave me the most exuberant greeting of any dog I had come across as a kid. I loved my beagle but Lola stole my heart and I always made sure I had something special in my pocket when I went to visit her.
I love sharing my life with an "up your ass " dog who both makes me laugh and amazes me on a daily basis.
