My guy Brian is 92.5 pounds. The vet figures he is about 5+ pounds over weight. We've been trying everything to get the weight off. He gets lots of exercise. He is a serious food thief though.

I think a good place to start is making sure he doesn't take any food he shouldn't. Also, cut back on treats. I find a lot of people don't realize just how many treats they give their dog.

My dog was about 7lbs over weight. Our fault 100%. To remedy the problem we did the obvious things, cut back on food and treats and took for more walks.

My little red girl got kind of like a sausage dog for a while.. but I cut back the food, changed to weight control food. And of course now that we have my younger blue girl , Sara (my red) gets lots more exercise running and chasing in the backyard. :)

We're in a constant struggle with Magnum to keep weight on.

Yes.. my first dobie (male) never got over weight.. he was a hard keeper in horse terms. My vet just told me that once he got over 3 yrs old, he would look better in the winter when he did not get as much exercise. Can you say Cop out?

LOL!!! I think that might have to be a different thread, or maybe a different site.

Same weight loss plan applies to humans as well...less treats more walks.

Maybe cut down his food to 2/3 of what you were giving him :) and like Alisha said.. "more Walks"

I think it really depends on the hight or general size of your dobe. If your vet says his weight is good, go with it.

Our guy Magnun is about 83 pounds right now, not a big fan of food. We're trying to get him up over 90lbs, that's where the vet wants him.
