Just got an update on Von. Today he was actually able to carry on a conversation with Norma - She said that they set him up in bed for the first time and that he did good. She hopes that by the first of the week they can do the skin graft on his leg and then he can come home and work on rehabilitation. Prayers are working!!!!

It is such great news - Von and i have had our moments in the past and don't always agree but we always respect each others opinions. I am so thrilled to hear this good news.

Thanks for the good news! Von has a wealth of information on dobermans. If we all agreed on everything, what a borning life we'd lead. I have always enjoyed Von's passion and his memory of pedigrees goes behind anyone I've ever known. Thanks Von for being you. Get well soon and I know we are waiting for more good news. Sure miss your posts. Get well soon!

I will forward all responses from today to Norma so she can take them to Von. I tell you it did not sound good for his leg but what a blessing to hear that it will only require a skin graft. I am elated. Hopefully when he gets home he will be a little more coherent and can send us a message.

Get well soon Von. I am waiting for you to get back on line here to share information. Sounds wonderful hearing the good news about sitting up. Go Von. I am sure that both you and your wife are so happy to see progress. Take care of yourself and make sure your wife takes care of herself as well. Don't overdo......:)

Hi guys... I didn't even know about DobermanHub until just now. I'm glad to see that there is a thread for Von. Does anyone know if Norma has gotten him a laptop yet, so he can 'see' us? Lois

Von had surgery again yesterday. They had to debride the foot again and they had to remove everything all the way down to the bone on the right side of the left ankle. The doctor said he is 90% ready for the skin graft but needs to work on getting the last 10% ready. He said he has worked to hard to amputate now. I told him I agree and lets make sure we don't have to. His head still comes and goes. Sometimes he is normal and sometimes he is very confused and halucinates. The surgeon will look at it again this Friday and hopefully he will be ready to schedule the skin graft.

I haven't brought him a laptop because I don't think he will be able to figure out how it works. He still needs to get the nurse to help him use the cell phone he has had for years. It will only frustrate him and make him more upset. I will reconsider soon.

Thanks for the email. I'll print and read it to him tomorrow.

Norma

Von we are all pulling for you and hoping that you are healing daily. I am sure that you are sick of that place no pun intended. LOL. Take care of yourself and heal quickly. We miss you on the hub. I know exactly what it is like to be in the hospital for a long time so watch all of the television you can, pick on the nurses and complain a lot maybe they will kick you out sooner. Heal well so you can come home. Hey and ask for visits from your four legged family. You just need some doberman love to get you back on the mend.....

Todays update!

" The doctor is going to remove the wound vac on Monday and we are hoping he feels it is ready for the skin graft. If so, they will do it Monday. The sooner he can get the skin graft the sooner they will be able to cut back on some of the meds. They have now added morphine everytime they have to change the dressings/wound vac. I'm not a doctor but, because the wound is so large and the bone, nerves and tendons are exposed changing out the dressings has to hurt like a mother. It will still be time but covering all that with the skin graft will have to help.

Pudgie and Abby are doing just fine. It's a long day for Pudgie but he is handling it well. He is 10-11 hours a day in the house. His recliner sits in front of the windows so he can watch everything going on outside. Abby on the other hand is a kitty and loves to sleep."

NEWS on VON: Although Von has not had the skin graft yet things are better. Neurology released him so last Wednesday night he was transferred to an In-Patient Rehab Unit to prepare him for home. They are teaching him to get from the bed to a wheel chair using a walker. The ultimate situation would be the foot/ankle is ready for the skin graft before they discharge him but if it's not he will come home until it's ready. We'll have to be extra careful with Pudgie that he doesn't hurt him.
