My friends doberman got into this thing where he hates being woke up. He will sometimes show his teeth and try and bite him. I was just wondering what might make his doberman do this.
I think the doberman is just old. He's about 13 i think. But i still wanna know if there is any other reason maybe for this :D

I don't like being woke up either. I'm not sure tough I would try and bite someone.
I think his age is the main contributor. At that age he could be losing his hearing and/or vision. Being woke up suddenly may be scaring him.

I've read that dogs of any breed when asleep should never be suddenly woken up as they may be having a bad dream and feel they need to protect themselves.

I agree.. age is likely the issue. He may be very uncomfortable and stiff when he wakes and that would make him grouchy. He may have other physical issues that contribute. At 13 he is a very elder statesman.

It's interesting you posted this because Rommel does the same thing minus the bite thing. He'll just make this really low grumbling noise (sounds like the noise my bf makes when I wake him up for work) when he's trying to sleep, my bf's mom actually the other day didn't even touch him but sat in a rocking chair next to him and he made that sound just to give her the heads up that he was in fact trying to sleep, he hides the TV remotes so we can't turn the tv on in the morning while he's sleeping.
