Over a month ago, I was thrown head first into this breed, when my handsome Prince was given to me, due some crappy circumstances... I took a crash course on Dobermans, and have never looked back.
We have had a tough journey, but my gawd, do I ever LOVE this dog. He has his issues, but at home, with my hubby, my three other dogs and myself, he is a dream dog. He learns things so quickly, will do any task I ask of him, and enjoy it. He is the most affectionate and loyal dog you could ever know. He is such a butthead with us, and has a sense of humor like no other breed. He is always up to mischief and always gets the best of me, when I am not watching him. His life and energy are so welcomed, aside of first thing in the mornings.
My little staffie bitch LOVES Prince and they hang out and sleep together constantly. She beats him silly and she is tiny compared to him. Fergus my male stafford and Prince play and spar constantly and then the two staffies go against Prince and run all over the house. Cyren my rottie girl is finally allowing him to come near her, and does not think he is pond scum nearly as much as she used to. He is a walking garburator and really aspires to be a fat assed doberman, if I allowed it. He loves to play, will lay down and let the staffies jump all over him, and steal his toys.
This dog, learns stuff so quickly, we still have our issues, but I honestly think within a year, we will overcome them all. He is now such a happy guy, he loves the rides to the city and sits quietly in my truck as we watch people of all kinds walk around the truck. We still have issues with other dogs, but take things slowly and go day by day. I know he simply adores his new family, and really is bonding and starting to trust us. I cannot imagine what he will be like in another month, since he has turned around so much already.
Time for me to go out and work him now for awhile. I love to work this guy, he will do anything I ask of him and seems to really enjoy whatever I throw his way. My rotties all learned very quickly, but they are not machines like dobies seem to be.
I really love this breed, although I wish I could tap into Prince's endless energy and use it for my own well being...
