Les - Welcome from Missouri - There are several great kennel in the UK, I know because I bred to a wonderful dog out of the Otherton kennel. Unfortunately they both died last year and the kennel was disbanned.

Does the UK have a Doberman Club??? If so they should have a listing of member breeders.

At one time I posted on some things to check or that could be red flags when researching breeders.

1. Is the breeder a member of the Doberman Club
2. Do they personally work, show and train their dogs or just talk about great dogs in their past?
3. When you do a web search do you come up with any negative under their name?
4. Can or will they give you references more than someone who just got a puppy - but previous buyers?
5. Do they health test??? Ask to see the paperwork because unfortunately many talk about it but don't actually do it. Vwd, Thyroid, Hips, cardio
6. Ask them what dogs in they lines have died from. They should be open and honest.
7. Do they have a contract and do they screen prospective puppy buyers?
8. Do they take puppies back if there is any problem? Stand behind their dogs.
9. Are the pictures on their web site of dogs nicely presented - Stacked and hopefully with some ribbons or just outside pictures of dogs lounging around. This screams BYB to me. If they show they have some nice pictures.
10. If they talk about over-sized, king etc they are not breeding to standard - run

These guidelines should give you some help. Hopefully there is someone here that is from England.

Thanks for the welcome. I checked the K.C. site and found a list of breeders with pups, I contacted some of the breeders listed and have eliminated several. I am going to check a couple of breeders and their pups over the next few days.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Good glad you were able to come up with a list. I am familiar with Amazon kennel as they are big into the show ring. Amazon Sound Machine and AMAZON BRAHMS N' LIZT were top studs for several years. Jowendy's and Mayhem are two others I know a little about. I don't know any of them personally but you are always better to find a breeder who is a member of the breed club - it speaks volumes about their involvement in the breed. Let us know who you find and good luck in your search.

Hi There,
I have a network of reliable breeders that can help you here in England. I am a member of the UKDA myself. If you cannot find what your looking for, just drop us a pm and we can have a chat and maybe put you in touch with the right breeders.I have also a network of reliable Irish breeders too that can supply docked tail if thats what you desire too. I myself will be having a litter at the end season this year, which will be sent to Ireland to be whelped so they can be docked. If you want a look at my clan they are on FB. Hope i can help.

I am glad to see that breeders if they so choose have options to get the dogs docked in the UK. I wonder how long it will be here in the US before these same bans take place. There are many powers working to get it in place here as well. I just wish that people would leave things alone and find something else to spend their excess time and energy on.

I could not agree more! I think it should all be down to the individuals choice. Not the choice of want to get elected politicians....unfortunetly this always seems to be the way. I have always believed in docking as the tail is well, pretty much useless to them. Here in the UK it has been banned for 4 years now,but there are loop hole's if you can prove that the dog is going to be a working dog. Otherwise you have to send your bitch to the Republic of Ireland where the practice is not banned,so your pups can be born there and docked. Then you can legally import them back into the country and have them registered as imports then you can show with them.
I believe and always have that a Dobermann needs to be docked. This practice now is sweeping through mainland europe now too.So soon it will be outlawed everywhere in Europe.Which i personally find distastefull,as yet again the politicians are making there own views made public, which are not the views of breeders or owners.

Mercman. I have been lookin for a pup/ breeder since last Jan, it was a great experience chatting to these people who always seem to know better than the other breeders. Anyway, I have sent u a PM, and have given u details of thr kennel where my next pup hails from. Hope that helps u, and contact me if u require more details. Paul

Wow so you guys have the same problems in other countries as we do here. Everyone tells us what we can and can't do etc. I say until you are paying all my bills such as vet care, feeding, show entries, etc. etc. etc. Mind your business Peta, Politicians and Pompous Posteriors. LOL.

Rhiannon, I agree with you on the crop and dock issue all the way.

Unfortunately, most of us would be for animals and humane treatment. The problem with PETA is that they seek to have no pure bred dogs, no docks, no crops, and in the end, no pets. They have over run the TV with sad ads of animals and making more and more money and they do not spend it on rescues. The HSUS is right there with PETA, as more and more PETA seek job in enforcement.

It does upset me a litte when I see people taking chances with aggressive dogs, as when it bites the breed is blamed. When we see puppymills that are in deployable conditions, they blame all breeders. When they see people breed known defects like albino, Z, cripples, dmc, wobblers, or other faults known to man, they blame all breeders. When they have an over population of poorly bred untested dogs, they blame all breeders. Because of some idiots in the world, they are slowly taking our rights. The truth is each should be responsible to their own, but unfortunately there r breeders that only want the buck....and that's sick!

Attempt at exposing those that are taking our rights aren't too successful and it continues, giving PETA fuel to hurt those that do care, try to stand up for the animals, and help the rescue dogs. Those that help give fuel to PETA, the public, and the lawmakers are breeders that say it's my business....when it is our business when we are constantly blamed.

We already have laws about this stuff that is not enforced and I'm not for more but what we do as ambassadors of the breed matter. And as a breeder, I am not responsible for all the idiots in this world....

Rhiannon, this was not about your comment. I agree with you, but it got to me to thinking....sorry for the ramble. Was this off topic? LOL Passion has a way of doing that. LOL
