Monday, I am picking up two rescue puppies. The female was returned and said to be deaf. The owners aren't sure though. I suspect Z factored and will find out Monday, as they do have papers. I'll know more once I see them. There is also a male and he can hear. They were going to put them down because they couldn't find homes.

The young couple has a new baby and just can't take care of the puppies. I have referred her to a discounted spay and neuter place, hopefully she will listen and there will not be more puppies that have lived in the back yard without socialization etc. So sad.

Here is the picture if you know of a great home??

How cute they are - love their faces. I hope they find loving homes... I wish I could take them in.

The puppies are not deaf. And that's for sure! They arrived in the back of a pickup truck in a crate. It was raining cats and dogs........all wet. Surprised they weren't just wrecked. I've had them for a few hours and they are already playing, ate, and seem to be doing fine. I feel sure they will require socialization and obedience training. Cute, friendly, puppies..........OMG how do people do this? I have to just focus on them being happy now. It's not easy. Here's their happier picture after they were dry and the rain stopped.

Thanks Lolo - can't keep them either. They will find a good home though.

How adorable and thank goodness for people like yourself who care enough to gives these little guys a loving home. Have you found a home yet and if not we would definitely be interested in providing a home for a least one of these cuties. I'd love to give them both a home but that would probably send Mercedes into a state of doggie depression!!! HAHA !!!!

We will have to have them fixed so it will be a few weeks. We have not found homes yet, but I feel sure we will. They are survivers.

Do you know their date of birth/age? They look like they could be anywhere from 7 or 8 weeks to about 11 or 12 weeks - hard to tell... David and I are working hard at ignoring wanting them. (cannot, should not, must not... WANT TO, WANT TO... cannot, ought not...moan...)

Lolo, they were born 3-28-2010. Have about a week before it is too late to do the ears. I'm torn on it and am covering their basic needs. If someone wanted them cropped, I could have it done before they were shipped. Just so much I can do. We will have them to the vet tomorrow, as they need another shot and I'm sure worming. They were coverd in ticks but now have that taken care of......OMG I hate ticks! They are dead now!

The breeders had a new baby and couldn't take care of the puppies. A friend call me and here they are. Cute little pups. There was talk about putting them down and couldn't handle that. They are beautiful little dobermans and just want some attention. Surprising they come to you and are so playful. They are great in the crate, not a peep. It is the only way we can keep them seperated from our dogs. We have a small front yard for them when it's not raining. My husband and I are enjoying playing with them. They are so good........

We were SO happy that we left Rocky and Willie's ears natural. I would have been happy to have left Annie's natural, too, but that wasn't an option. As the years go on, we are becoming more and more fond of the natural Dobe, and love the fact that KansaDobe has a natural-eared male (Tyler, who looks SO much like Willie) who is one of only 3 natural-eared Dobes I know of in the US to attain CH. I feel like that may help (some day) to get people to accept them as they are. (I know - kind of political/unpopular.....)

Our dobermans ears are cropped but I hear you. I've never owned an uncropped doberman. I am considering cropping them because there are so many with natural ears in rescue in my area. You never know when one of the dogs has to be rehomed. I still have that option for about a week. Thanks for sharing your views and the information on the CH.

Thanks to both of you for your interest in the pups. The main thing is to find them a forever home and make sure they are healthy and socialized. Amazingly, they have never been crated and together did great....no crying, no mess. I think they were very glad to be inside but they were ready to go out at;) daybreak. Fun to have puppy breathe around the house again.

Both rescue puppies have new homes now. I have an appointment to have their ears cropped on Thursday. It's rags to riches and they are doing better everyday. They both will have wonderful homes.

Yeah - I guess I really do understand - a lot of people think it's not a 'real' Doberman unless the ears are cropped, so it's probably much better for their chances at a good life.
How wonderful that they were adopted so quickly... I hope they are lucky, and have great homes.

man i love rescue! it makes it so worthwhile when you get that first email from the new owner chop FULL of pics. we had one of the conformationally ugliest dobes in america, everything all the way up to her snout was crooked!! haha she was the best dog we ever had in the house ever! i'd wake up to ears sticking out of our comforter on the bed, she was sneaky. the lady who got her wanted a glued to you doberman who was quirky, we got an email a week later full of pics they paid to have professionally done so that they had family pics with miss hailey! they are in love, as im sure these pups owners will be. bet they will tell everyone just how they got those pups, and then people will see how rescue isnt just for those bad dogs we see in movies

We kept the rescue girl over the 4th. She has really decided this world is great. The new owners have her housetrained and continued her crate training. She is an outgoing little girl. We took her wraps down on her ears....she needs to grow into them a bite. LOL. She has a great home and will start obedience soon.

The other rescue boy went to an experienced trainer and he has already tried out the tunnels at our obedience club.

Lucky pups....thought you'd like to see her with big girl ears.......I was afraid the ears wouldn't stand at 12 wks.....guess, I was wrong. We are wrapping them for the owners.

Happy endings.......;)

12 weeks is usually the cut off recommended for ears but I have seen people have them done at 16 weeks and they stand. It is better to give them the best chance possible by doing them early but it the rest depends on how faithful they are posting and the kind of ear leather the puppy has. I prefer to crop mine at 7 weeks. Never have a problem with th em standing at that age.

Glad both puppies have happy homes. It is all anyone could wish for. - Ears look good!!!

On this rescue pup, I only had her a week........so it was now or never on the crop. The owners understand they will have to work on the ears for awhile......we're wrapping them and hoping they will learn how to wrap...........two wraps and encouraging......but your right, they will have to keep at it. A little more bell left on her but we were please she has a nice long crop.....

Thanks Suzan for your input.

:DThought you'd like to hear that Gunnar, the shy rescue male puppy is in puppy kindergarden and has come out of his shell. The owner is a trainer at our club and he has a great life. They keep me posted on FB. They did say their 9 yr old doberman girl is still ignoring him but they curl up at night and are getting along.

Hope to go see him next week. He was such a mistreated puppy......left in the rain with no shelter,no shots, full of worms.........he is looking great now. Dobermans are wonderful but really was concerned about him.

The female was much more outgoing and also with a trainer that works with police dogs. Last picture I got, she was sitting on the couch with one of the children..........

Those two stories made me smile. Why do people breed dogs if they can't take care of them? Most are not so lucky......and he has taken two special homes to make their saga turn out right.......

I am glad to hear the good news. I am kind of ashamed that when we decided to get Liberty we did not look to rescue. I wouldn't trade Liberty or her memories for anything but I think we will try and educate ourselves better and look to rescue our next Doberman.

Rescues are wonderful dogs most of the time, but sometimes people do want health tested or dogs that have a history of some venue or that were raised responsibly. No need to feel bad. I do think that when you buy from people that breed only for money...do nothing but breed their dogs.......that a rescue is a better selection because you support what you buy. We foster doberman rescues but prefer to have dogs we can show.....and aren't ashamed of that.

I do know that many of the rescues need foster homes until the dogs can be placed. It's a hard job and many of these dogs do come with baggage that takes work. We're happy that these two we worked with found a great home and are happy.

Thought I'd update on the rescue puppies.

The female is in training with her police officer friend and working on obedience & scent work. They said she is wonderful and very happy with her protective nature.

The male is with a trainer at TDTC and working in obedience with plans on agility. They said he did great with the tunnels last week.

Great homes and will keep you posted. It's the joy of placing rescue for sure.

No, PP work on the female puppy though. Just obedience and tracking for drugs. They have her as a housepet and say she is protective and is just what they wanted. So happy for her.

They arrived in the back of a pickup in the drenching rain, soaking wet.....it's amazing they recovered....no treasure, just like all of us we try to do our best. But it's a never ending battle when people breed and don't have homes for them.....it's why not all dogs should be bred.

Amazing how people will have a small yard, small place, and can't take their puppies back.......well, yeah.......if you don't have room for 10-12 puppies then don't breed because they could need a home and come back. Unfortunately, some people sell them and think that's the end of it. It should be your responsibility FOR Life.......things happen.

No, neither one of them were deaf. They both found great homes. One a police officer that is training her in tracking, the other is with a trainer at our local club..........only so many house dogs can fit but yes, we'd like to keep them all, just have to do what we feel is best for them. Lucky dogs....really.

Glad you're back with us, Chris. Happy Holidays.
