Since Gunner is back from his long lay off with 2 shoulder surgeries due to injury we have been preparing to show next weekend. I knew training had been going along to smoothly - True Gunner is a little rusty after his long R & R, but for the most part has put his act right back together - so here we are a week out and today it was like WHAT HAPPENED to my boys???

First worked Gunner - What does the boy do, GOES DOWN on the long sit. GUNNER - this is a very elementary thing. He was been sitting since he was a baby. Very solid - Where the heck did this come from????

Ok Go on to Shrock - We are heeling along all is well. Does an outstanding long sit with another dog working in the area right next to him. He does not budge. GREAT - Hope Gunner saw that.

Then we come to the recall. I sit him and walk about 25 feet out and turn. Now when I turn I ALWAYS wait 10 to 30 seconds before calling him so he does not EVER anticipate the recall. WHAT DOES HE DO - As soon as I turn he takes off like a bomb and comes running to me. WHAT THE HECK IS THIS???? I calmly walk him back to the start and go back to call him and WHAT here he comes AGAIN.

OK Calm down it is just one thing - we can fix this. Then we go to work on finish. I give the command and HE SITS THERE AND JUST LOOKS AT ME!!!! Now I am freaking. PLEASE not now just one week til the show. We have been perfect in practice.

Makes me wonder where all this stuff comes from. So there you go. We are headed to next Friday and the first day of the show and here I was very confident - now NOW I AM revamping training and trying to figure out what they think they are doing before Friday.

We have special company coming to WATCH us! They had better bring dark glasses and big hats to hide under - maybe no one will know they are with us. My boys are doing some revamping of their own. Dobes are just so darn much fun.

Frustrating I'm sure Dobs4ever, but I had to giggle too. I'll bet they will shine on show day. You might need a "chill pill" or a big glass of calming adult beverage, but you'll make it. Have faith in your boys!! I KNOW Gunner will be a good boy, 'cause he knows I love him!! LOL

Well, my Jinka is 15 weeks old, and sometimes she sits or stays or waits at least a few seconds but sometimes won't even sit! I can imagine how freaked out you may feel with just a little time before the show, but on my side it makes me feel a little better to know that Dobes can act that way even after the best of training and with the experts! Hey, your bad moments just gave this new-first-time-Dobe-owner a new hope! LOL! Anyway, you all will do great when you get to the show! They'll do their work well! Those dogs sure love you! I wish I could come watch!

Nora wish you could come also. I have 4 of my families going to be there to watch and support. Hey honey - I have stories galore - I like the ribbons, but it is those special moments when they shine and change things that bring a twinkle to my eye. So don't you EVER worry about them not being perfect -

I remember the day Gunner got one of his CD legs. I was just so darn excited. That boy always puts everyone to shame on heeling. He never takes his eyes off me. I had visions of HIT - Blue ribbons - steak for dinner - Well we come to the recall. I sat him and walked across the room - The judge said "Call your dog" I did - Gunner Here - OH MY GOSH I could see the whites of that boys eyes. He took off like he was shot out of a cannon and I KNEW he had no intentions of stopping or slowing down. I braced myself in hopes he did not knock me flat on my behind. Sure enough hit me right square in the chest - while in the air gave me a big lick on the check and did a half way flip finish - all in one move. I look down like - WHAT THE HECK was that??? What do I see - A GREAT big Gunner Smile as if to say -"Well Mom we certainly showed those darn slow poke golden's how to do a REAL recall. So I have one chance to salvage some points from the finish as we just blew the front. Now we have practiced the go around finish -but he is 3/4 of the way to heel so I decide to do the flip finish. I look at him and Yell FUS!!

He sits that and looks at me like - Hey can't see I have already done that. Oh well. I am trying no to burst out laughing before the judge calls exercise finished. The moment she does I laugh and up that boy jumps and runs into the middle of the ring to do his happy happy Gunny boy dance - he loves to celebrate when he thinks he has really outdone himself. Even the judge was laughing at his antics. It still warms my heart to remember that special special day. We did not beat the golden's in fact that little fiasco moved us down to third place - but in my heart it was better than first any day. WE HAD FUN!!

I love these kind of stories...Dobs4ever......gotta love these dang crazy beasts that they call Doberman Pinschers. They are so darn smart. And you have to love the fact that they do things with style......hehehe. Good luck at the shows and let us know how they do.

Thanks everyone. We just took today off and chilled. I am getting too uptight to work them right now for fear I will mess up more. I have visions of Glory, now I am just humbled enough to pray for a pass. How quickly they bring us back to reality.

I know those boys will do fine Suzan, if they did perfect at every training it would not be challenging and we would slack off on our training. After all, training is as much for us as it is for them. Reddy told me his daddy was going to be nails next weekend and Gunner has been waiting so long to make you proud you know he will do well. see ya on the 4th

See you tomorrow!!!
