I have two and let me tell you they play hard and rough. When my prior dobie was really an old man (Jax, about 12) I knew I had to have another fuzzy face around if he left me. So I got my current red girl (Sara). He wanted to play with her sooo bad all the time. But he was too old and just couldn't :( . So he would stand in the middle of the yard and bark at her as she ran around him in figure eights. He would take his giant dumbell toy and drop it on her when she was sleeping. Sometimes she just knocked him down, cause she was moving so fast. It was funny and sad. I said I would add another dobie when Sara turned about 5 so they could spend some good years playing together. I didn't get my blue baby (Indigo) till this year and Sara is 7.. but man the action is big when they are going. The back yard is a mess of dirt trails where they run and chase each other.. and it always worries me that sometimes there is a yelp when they catch each other. I have two girls.. but the general rule is to do opposite sex. I think I'm ok with same sex because there is a 5 year age difference. I will never regret having 2.. but the vet bills are also 2x as is the food. Whew.

Yeah we just have Magnum. We would love to have another Doberman but realistically it would be too much for us. As it stands right now we have 1 dog and 3 cats. It's like a petting zoo here!

We Have Two Dobermans A 1 yr old red Nuetered Male And an Eight month old Black Female. And i have to agree with the rough housing they are relentless and either will ever give up. Its actually amazing my furniture is still holding up.

Have you read up on Dilutes. If not i suggest you do. you could and most likely will end up with a bald doberman by the time it 3 yrs old. Plus they require alot of extra care. Good luck. Id never tell anybody what to buy or what not to buy. But please do your homework if you havent already
I just found this site and I love it. I have two black and tan dobermans; one male, Hercules age 4 1/2 years and one female, Chloe age 2 1/2 years.
Jelly8bean is right about all the rough housing. I have a very small house, just four rooms and a bathroom, and when they go at it it's a wonder they don't break something. But they are surprisingly careful. I had always heard that dobie's needed a lot of space but my male is content to stay in the pen I had built for my last dog, a dobie mix who was much smaller than him. Hercules weighs 98lbs. Chloe weighs 92lbs. She, although younger, is the boss of the two.
I had heard the same thing from Chloe's breeder when I decided to get a companion for Hercules, that it was better to have oposite sex playmates to keep out, or down, the dominance factor. But, I'm finding that that isn't necessairily true. Chloe gets into a mood sometimes and really goes after Herc. Once he had to have 5 stiches in his outer ear because she bit him.
This all just started happening about 8 months ago. When she was a puppy she was playful and not agressive at all.
I was wondering if anyone else who had two mostly indoor dobermans had any suggestions as to how to disuade her from doing this kind of thing. Sometimes Herc actually acts frightened of Chloe. I've had them both since they were about 5 weeks old so they have never been taught to fight. But Hercules is definently the milder mannered of the two. He reminds me of Marmaduke in the cartoons. He is very gentle with my cats and plays with them. Chloe, on the other hand, just wants to chase them if they are outside. Inside she's not so bad with them. But I do have to watch her. It's like if she isn't the center of attention she will do anything to get into the limelight; good or bad attention, it doesn't seem to matter to her. Other times she is as docile as can be.
They are both fixed so this is really perplexing to me.

I have always thought it would be fun to have two dogs, but am finding out what a handful one Dobe can be, much less two! Although every time I go to the rescue group adoption events I find myself thinking about taking another one home...
But, experience has taught me, finally (:D), to take my time with new situations and really find the good comfort level before adding more complexity. I am enjoying working with Deano on confidence and obedience and I can almost see the progress daily- don't want to screw that up! It's only been 3 months and while I might think he would enjoy company, it most probably is best that he be our center of attention for the time being.
Although, he was pretty happy with the fosters' pack of 3... ;)

We just have the one dobe, and would looove to get him a play mate because he really needs a dog his size, I take him to my mom's to play with her english mastiff, but she's going to be 13 this year so that's like 400 years old in mastiff years, and he really just jumps all over her, We're wishing that the breeder we got Rommel from will still be breeding in another year or 2 just cause we've had so much success with him.

OMG I think were about to be three.... I am getting another beautiful pup from Kimbertal.... They have been so helpful... I saw this beautiful puppy and she was born on my MIL birthday.... My MIL passed a few years ago... and I still miss her allot. Well this puppy and a couple of her litter mates were up and they just flew off the sale page so fast I know I was being a pain in the butt with Kimbertal not being able to make up my mind...anyway they all were sold... I was so sad... and I was up late getting ready to pack and I was stalking there site as usual cause I love all their beautiful puppies and there she was back up.... so say a little prayer and hopefully she will be home with me soon... I am just a little sad cause I am not even going to get to see her till I come back from my trip to Chile...

i have 2 labs, and i really do feel that 2 dogs is better than one when it comes to just them interacting with each other.
