Our 6 year old black and tan guy, Tony, has developed some really bad breath over the last two months. He is on high quality dog food and nothing has changed in his diet. His teeth and gums look good as well.

Thanks in advance.

They sell dog mints but the only thing that I think really works is brushing there teeth, gums, and tongue every day it might be harder on an older dog if he is not use to it but these dogs are prone to gum disease. We started brushing Apollo's teeth when he was 5 months old so he would be use to it.

You can go to a pet grooming facility and have them clean his teeth, they could better help you with this but it might cost you.

The other thing you might want to consider (you might not like this to much) we can't bathe them as much as we would like but if you take a wet rag with some hand soap and wipe him down especially his privates because that mixed with the left over food stuck in his teeth, tongue, and gums could smell, it might help but it surly won't hurt .

Apollo is right. Brushing his teeth is really the only thing you can you. He may be old but not old enough that he can't get use to it. It might take a while though. It will be a bit of a pain the butt but the end result will be well worth it.

Feed him raw food with bone. Get on the raw diet for a month... If you like it stick with it. If nothing changes you have nothing to loose. I'm willing to bet no Kibble = better breath.
