Yep, Magnum is a Damn Digging Doberman. He digs a hole, I fix a hole. Magnum and I are caught in vicious circle.

Anyone else have a Dam Digging Doberman?

I love it "The Dam Digging Doberman". I wonder if this is a common issue.

Every doberman should come free with a landscaper.

We all know dobes are smart, so maybe we cant teach them to fill their holes in when their done with them.

They say if you want to get them to stop to just put there own poo int the hole and fill it in . I don't see how this could work wouldn't they just find another spot to dig. although I do agree with another approach if you don't mind them digging but would like to keep it to one spot in th yard, put a favorite toy or treat in a hole (were you allow them to dig) and they will only dig in that one spot. I have never tried this Apollo doesn't dig (yet) but it does have some logic to it.

Putting poo in the hole? Makes sense I guess. Their sense of smell is strong enough it would make them not want to dig up their own poop.

Rich S,

I just found this thread and would like to pass on something which has worked for me with my two diggers. I read this one in a breaking bad doggie habits book I found.

I bought some vinyl coated wire 'horse fence'. It's colored in a dark green. I also bought 'earth staples', these are U shaped metal things for staking down landscape fabric.

Whenever I find a new spot where my dobes have dug a hole in the yard, or even where they have wore out the grass and made a dirt pathway, after I fill in the hole I lay out some of the horse fence over the entire area and peg it to the ground with the earth staples. It can be cut to fit with needle nose plyers. They can't dig through it and grass grows right up through it. This can be mowed over, too, so it's pretty invisible after the grass comes back. It's not the softest thing to walk on with bare feet but it sure discourages digging behavior; at least in the places where you lay the fencing. This stuff is pretty cheap @$25.00 a 50' roll for the fencing. The staples are around $.25 apiece and can be found on line or at most garden supply stores.

I also laid patio pavers on the entire base of their outside pen where I put them when I want the back yard to myself because I'm working on something like the garden. And I also drove in green metal fence stakes and used some of the horse fence to completely fence across the front of where my veggie garden is. They could push this whole fence right over if they really wanted to but for some reason they don't.

Hope this is a help to you.

Hey Rich,
My Damn digging Dobermans only dig where my kids play with Tonka trucks in the dirt. They have a little, no big, dirt pile where they play and I swear they taught the dogs to dig there. I have to find the picture and post it. I just yell at them if they dig when its muddy out. Maybe your D.D.D. needs a playmate, HAHAHa just an idea????

Playmate??? You better not talk to my wife. I've had to put a "pet cap" in place in our home, 1 dobe and 3 cats.

Although Magnum wouldn't complain about having another Doberman around.
