I found this website that explains very nicely how to dremel dogs nails.
I have started doing this with my red dobie (who really fights having her nails clipped) and she is doing great. Her nails have always been long because I can't hold her to get her clipped regularly. However I have been able to dremel her every few days and we are coming back into normality with the nails. My rottie is great with it as well. Just rolls over and hangs out. Lots of treats help of course. :) I'm having a harder time with my blue baby because she has decided that the dremel is bad noise and is scared of it. So, I'm generally able to clip her nails normally, but am working to desensitize her to the dremel. The dremel is what the Peticure is without the baffle. ;)

It is from a dobie person.. thought you all might find it interesting.

I saw an infomercial ad for peticure at $29 that was a great price but when I went to there web site that was only for small dogs large dogs were somewhere around $50 not including shipping Or extra sanding drums. I bought my dremel at lowe's for $30 and got the sanding drums through my work. At first Apollo did not like it but he got use to it and now lays there when I do his nails. I use to clip them when he was young but found this much easier for both of us. Thank you for the link. I will definitely try some of these tips.

Well I'm in a quandry now. I am merrily dremeling my reds (Sara's) nails - she sees the dremel and instantly runs over and sits and almost offers paws to get the treats. But my blue baby (Indigo) is really being a big baby about this. I have been working on trying to get her to sit and let me bring the thing near her paw for 3 weeks now. We are struggling. I have treats and she knows it. She is frustrated and can't figure out what I want, I know.. but she is so quick to back up and run. Once or twice I have been able to get her.. hold by collar and pick up a front paw. Then I bring the dremel near. I have touched one nail - just touched, once. Always lots of treats. As soon as I let go - she whizzes off and won't let me near her again while I have hold of the dremel. Geez.. how long can this take? Any other suggestions?

I have been using the dremel on our dog's nails for several years. It's great for dogs that are afraid of/ dislike having their nails trimmed in the traditional way, it's almost imposible to cut the quick, and it's AWESOME for pushing the quick back farther over a period of time (for overgrown nails).
I would recoment this method of nail trimming to anyone. Just take it slow untill you get the hang of it :)
