Now that the weather has been a little cooler I'm to take Magnum with me when I run. Yesterday he did his first 5k and he loved it. We ran, for a human, a fairly fast pace. Magnum looked at me a few times during the run as it to say "can we pick up the pace a bit?"

He stayed beside me the whole time and had no problems understanding the changing of speed and direction. Great running partner.

I hope to start running someday with our dog as well.

Ha.. when I start running my dobies would love it. I just aint there and likely won't be. But I can hold up for long purposeful walks. Wish it would get cooler here.. but not likely for the next month.

Great job Magnum and of course Rich. I couldn't run that far. I get out of breath running to the fridge for more food.

Star ran with me for almost 12 years. She is in her 13 year now. I think one of the main contributors to her staying so healthy was running 2 to 3 days a week. The only reason I don't run with her anymore is because she has developed some arthritis.

I can tell she misses it though. Every time she sees my running shoes out, she gets excited.

She has started some new meds from the vet to help elevate the arthritis. The vet says she should be able to run, just not as often. They say the running will help with her arthritis.

How old should your dog be when you first start it running?

I'm not sure if there is a golden rule or not, but I would say when a dog is more mature physically. If the dog is too young it may be hard on their new bones. Another variable is how far you going to run.
