View Full Version : Petfinder for rescues
Petfinder is a site that lists many of the doberman rescues around the country. You just put in your zip code and yalooo.
Make sure the rescue is one that is placing the dogs fixed and ask lots of questions. It's like anything else.......check them out.

In our area they call the rescues when dobermans are in the shelters etc. Every effort is made to rescue them.
Are you suggesting people call in your area? I'm not sure how all that works in other areas, Twiggy, as I'm just familar with our area.
I got a call yesterday from a family with a 6 year old male, housetrained, and socialized. They are moving and are not sure they can take him with them. So sad for this boy......not sure if I'll have him or they will work it out. Just wish people would be as loyal to the dogs, as they are to us. So hard on dogs that think their owners are their world and are dumped, especially at this age. Actually, my favorite are the Srs.........geeze. The Bixby rescue will put his picture up for me if he comes in........sad.

My refernece was intended as the difference between a dog living in a kennel run in a shelter (especially after all that is said regarding dobes and outside/away from family, etc) and those that live in foster care! If an animal is a non kill shelter, it is still different than those rescues that have foster homes available for the dogs they resacue. A foster home can and does provide the training and socialization and in some instances rehab that is needed by some dogs. Actual shelter are more inclined to utilize the help involved during their hours of operation and perhaps a bit longer. Seniors, oh yeah, that is a heart breaker!
