Hello all im back again. My blue doberman is around 4 1/2 months old now and has already been an amazement to me. I have been looking online on different types of simple obedience training for not only Apollo, but for my self as well. But as we all know that not everything we see on the internet is what it seems, so im coming here for help. I dont want to train him with clickers or treats, but by my praise, because it seems if there where an emergency for any reason, i don't want to have to fumble in my pocket to get a treat out. I would love to know what your thoughts are on the subject because i want a well behaved dog. If there are any books that would actually be worth buying, what are the titles? Even if some of you know good schools i can try please feel free. Keep in mind that this is my first dog and im still learning everyday with him. Happy holidays to all and be safe : )

Where do you live? Many times there are local obedience classes that will be an excellent resource for you.

For my dogs, I do what works and if they are food motivated that's what I use. The clip on bags work great so you don't have to dig in your pockets and remember you will not be using the food forever. Motivating the dog to work at it's potential is the goal and if food is motivating to my dogs, we use it. The main thing with training is that you make it fun for the dog so that they are eager to do more. All dogs are motivated by different things, food is just one of the big ones.

I agree with the above and maybe you wanna take your pup to a puppy class, its good for the dog and you and you learn a few things as well :)
