We've still not 100% sure we want to get Magnum neutered. I've done the reading and research, and I understand some of the health risks. Maybe it's a guy thing.
For his health we are going to get him fixed (more like broken). Just curious to hear others thoughts on this.

Unless you have a breeding program designed and a show career to support that I feel there is absolutely no reason not to "fix" your dog. The health issues (as I'm sure your research has shown), the behavior management issues (IE intact dogs are more likely to have issues with others, marking etc) just don't make it a question to me. If you keep him intact and don't breed him, he is looking at a life of frustration, to breed you should be a reputable breeder and do the appropriate show titles, planning etc to promote the breed and the standard right?
What would be the reason not to?

This article is 12 pages long but it does tell you what cancers decrease and what cancers increase with neutering. Just like menopause has good and bad effects on the body.Click here: http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongTermHealthEffectsOfSpayNeuterInDogs.pdf The only side effect I have had on my personal dogs(since I always waited until the growth plates closed and the dogs were mature) is the incontinence. My old vet used to give them hormones to come into a false heat and then they did not leak for 9 - 12 months again but the new vets frown on it. Anne

I perfer to think of it as new and improved. But then Mars isnt apart of our breeding program and i have other females in the house. So as you can imagine that was more then enough reason for me.
