I do not know w atrainer in your arae but I will tell you to find one that lets you watch a few classes before you sign up. I have gone out and watched quite a few and some were good but some had the dogs overly aggressive before they did any obedience. I always figured that most people drop out before they are done and I would rather have them drop out with an obedience trained dog with some aggression work than a protection trained dog that has no control on him. I know Schutzhund people divide over this but again watch what they are doing with the dogs.
A good book to read which I have trained a Siberian with to do protection successfully, even though Sibes have no territorial instincts is "The Koehler Method of Guard Dog Training". The nice thing about it is you can stop at any point. You can stop when the dog is aware of people entering the property or take it all the way to where a dog will hold a person at bay but not touch them or move in for a hold and not let go. Thirtyfive years ago before the world was so sue happy my trained kerry blue chased the paper boy three blocks and never touched him as he kept him pinned after the kid chucked yet another glass coke bottle into my yard at the dogs. I am sure the kid went home and changed his pants but not a mark on him. It is a great book. Anne

sounds great. i just left the schutzhund training grounds this afternoon and the trainer i met with took 4 hours with us today and 4 of my pups. he was very informative and gave me the basics as what to look for in a puppy. you first want to go through obedience and then work their way to schutzhund. the obedience part is the most important so you gain a wonderful control on the puppy through certain techniques. the part of assessing drives was very interesting and actually how we as a people can help a puppies existing drives or help create drives with proper training techniques. i am looking forward to working my dogs with this trainer. i am going to the class training sessions on Saturdays with two of my pups and we are going to watch what goes on for the next month or so. i would love to see some of our pups make a schutzhund three title. the enjoyment would be doing all the work and having the dedication to my pups, and helping them to gain the knoweldge of this sport properly.

Geez. I must proof read my posts as typing and brain are definitely different speeds.
It sounds like you found what you are looking for. Do not let others talk you out of what you are comfortable with. My girlfriend webt to a trainer that pumps the dogs up and then teaches obedience to reign it in and after the shepherd popped two back windows out of her car going at passersby her husband made her quit. Sooo, they had a dog who was crated and confined most of the time since she was pumped up so young.
I have not done SchH and do not profess to be knowledgeable in that but know I prefer being around the ones obedienced first and then brought out although many professionals say the opposite. Good luck and post photos when you finish your first dog. Anne

Good for you Tina, thats a NEW excuse hahahaha!!!! She should do well at tracking after all she is a very curious girl and is very capable of amusing herself. I wonder if tracking could become boring to her if she doesn't turn it into a challenge game. Lets talk about that as time goes on. My Pena Girl was an incredible tracker but if it wasn't a real situation she could care less.

You need to use different locations, she can be getting comfortable in her areas and if shes doing good add some difficulties and challenge her but make her continue to have success. You know what I mean. Also the dark Red Head should return by fall, ya think???? Von

We'll see about that, don't know if the red head will return, but you never know :D
I think we wont have much much more longer for tracking, soon it will get to hot again, i sure don't hope so, but will see how long the weather stays like it is right now.
