Tonight was the last night of my distraction proofing class with my blue baby Indigo. I am so disappointed in the class and the instruction or lack thereof I can't tell you. I took distraction proofing or focus with another training group with my rottie back in Sept. We learned alot of tricks and things that we could use to get our dogs attention back on us. In this class we started with 6 and have ended with only 2. The assistant has constantly gotten my goat and tonight I just gave her the cold shoulder. She is always telling me I'm doing something to hurt my dog (don't pull on the leash, you will give your dobie wobblers, didn't you notice how stressed she is because her eyes are red etc. etc. etc) And she never sets us up for success but always for failure. She is telling me to do things that I have done and moved beyond, and it is no longer worth arguing with her. Tonight she took my dog to show me how to get her to heel with a treat lure... well Duh! I'm working on fading the treats at this point, of course she heels wonderfully with treats -we've been there. Now I know it is a distraction class and I need to get Indigo to pay attention to me thru distractions, and sometimes that means going back to the basics - but this woman is making me see red! I'm glad I have no further classes. And I won't be going with this training group again for classes. I will work with the group that I have used with my rottie. I had hoped that by the end of the 7 classes I could get her CGC, but one class was intro, the final class is only the CGC test and the first class with dogs I write off since we had the nightmare great dane. I missed one class because Indigo had that injury, so that means that I have only had 3 classes with real training. What a load of crap. I'm going to do the CGC next week, but I doubt we will pass. I don't care, I will move into a focus class with the other trainers and then we can get our CGC with better real obedience. It would be a miracle for Indigo to pass at this point. The one thing I wanted to work on was the greeting a neutral dog... and we have never gotten any information to help with that. Indigo is still trying her best to get to the other dog at all times. I'm just so frustrated to have paid money for this!
