Hi everyone! Well I am having a bit of a prob with Kane..He has always eating like he is starving and this causes him to throw up so I have been adding water to his food to soften it up. Also, he has a very very sensitive stomach and since he loves to dumpster dive (kitchen trash) and sometimes succeeds if the kids dont shut the pantry door then he throws up. Not fun. Anyway, my question is that he did throw up this morning and seems ok but just not as playful and kinda sleepy. So, do dogs get like colds where they feel out of it for a couple of days? He ate dinner fine. I fed him in 3 parts so he doesnt eat so fast. Should I wait a couple of days and see how he does or should I call the vet? Man, dogs are worse than kids cause at least they can tell you where/when they dont feel good. I hate not knowing! thanks for any help..also any suggestions for the eating? a way to slow him down?

My red dobie, Sara, throws up alot as well. Especially when she is stressed, but is always hungry. She also used to go thru a week with 3 days that she would play like a possessed puppy, then a down day - sleeping alot. This was when she was like 3 yrs old. The sensitive stomach has never gone away, and she still throws up every now and again. I have taken her to the vet, but they can't find anything - so we just live with it. Just this week my 2 and 1/2 yr old blue girl Indigo has started throwing up. I'm not worried about it though I know it is due to the high excitement levels. I've been working on the play levels of the two (they keep getting injured when at high level) and I expect it is stress from having to control some impulses (ie I have a leash and enforce my "enough" command). Unless there is something other going on (check the poo and hydration etc) I wouldn't get too worried. The only thing I've heard of that could be bad is that if they aspirate any of the vomit they can cause pneumonia in their lungs. So perhaps check temps every now and again?
My two will throw up when I stupidly give them any type of bones, even those made for dogs from the pet store, so I don't do that anymore.
Another thought, but I'm sure your vet would know, what about hook worms? These will make a dog throw up a lot. They can pick them up from walking on the ground where another dog whose owner doesn't take good care of their animals has defacated (or even your own yard if it doesn't get cold in your area and you dog has had them in the past) unless your dog is on a regular treatment plan which I'm sure your dobe is.
You're right they are worse than kids.

I just switched my Dobes to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Formula and WOW what a difference! They always seemed to be sick at "one end or the other" and had TERRIBLE gas! Within 2 days of them eating this new food all of their GI problems seemed to clear up. I thought it was just a problem Dobes had and I had to live with it but this food really works....Just an idea you may want to try. And it's not that expensive compared to other "high end" brands.
