Okay..so I know dogs smell like dogs..but Kane has a very strong smell, especially after he comes in from outside. Sheeba does not smell like that. Do you guys know of any safe like spray I can use on him when he comes in? He only gets real baths about 2/3 months but I would like something in between. Any suggestions?

There are coat conditioners you can buy at petsmart and such.. but that is not a real solution. Plus if you ever want to use a water squirt on barking spray bottles are bad news to your dog. If there is a smell it may have to do with diet. What are you feeding? The other thing that can help is to spray with Fabreze pet odor spray where he likes to lay around. Then he can kind of absorb the non-scent? You know what I mean.

My little blue girl, who, unlike her blue litter mates, has a nice, mostly full coat, but has a peculiar odor that I've been told is common in blues. It's "doggy" but not oppressive enough to try chemicals that only mask it. I bathe her with baby shampoo every other week end and she does just fine. No dry skin or adverse conditions.
My Razi sweats, though ! Her odor is mostly from the sweat that she exudes daily. I didn't think dawgs were sweat-ers but..... whatcha gonna do ? She loves to dig and I'm really glad her coat is short and doesn't hold much dirt.
Little piggy. LOL.

i know food can make a difference too. I have my dog on Timberwolf Wildnerness blend, and you can smell like a salmon (ish) oder from his coat.

Most dogs only sweat thru their paw pads so while there is a distinctive aroma from a wet hot animal, it is not actually sweat per say. What are you feeding your babies?

I feed the dogs Nutro Big dogs..I tried these like wipes from pets mart..just kinda wipe him down when he comes in...nah..not very helpful...Its so funny cause I use like candles, carpet deoderizer (powder then vacuum) and febreeze air..They are stinky but I love em! :D
Kane08,
My male dobe gets like that. He smells up his crate, too. My vet said his problem was anal glands (I'd never heard of that before either). This comes and goes in streaks around here. The most I do is wash his bedding and give him a bath. I can't stand it when he gets like that because he sleeps in my room.

Hum.. I have heard that any sort of Lamb and rice can make dogs smelly. Also I have heard that Nutro is not considered a particularly good food (too heavy in grains). Try upgrading the kibble to something with less grain content for a while and see if that helps.
I have heard of anal glands needed to be expressed (which a good groomer will do, or the vet if needed), so if they were clogged I guess that could contribute to a smell situation. My rottie needs hers done about 2x per year, but neither of my dobies seem to have that issue.

Try sprinkling some baby powder on him for quick "freshen-ups"!
