I have a six month old Doberman (Male) His tail was cropped by the breeder before I bought him. His tail has healed completely but hair has not grown over the tip of the tail. Is this normal, if not what can I do to fix this? Thanks for any help.
My female doberman had a lopsided tail dock (the skin part, not the bone) and after discussing this with my vet I opted to have him resect(?) it to even it out.
I'm no expert on this kind of thing but I would check with a competent vet for an answer to this. I've never seen a dobe with no fur after docking just some that I personally think were done too short.

My little red does not have hair right at the end of the tail.. and my old big red boy (some years past) didn't either. However, my current baby blue has hair 100%. I think it has to do with the docking surgery. Since mine have all been rescues I have never had it done. But, unless it causes some issues (which I can't imagine) it shouldn't make a difference.

yeah my brothers dob had the same issue hehe
I agree completely that if you love an animal their appearance isn't an issue. I was wondering if a person planned on showing a doberman for comfirmation if this would be a disqualifyer. I've read severl AKC guidlines on this subject and haven't seen this mentioned as allowable, or not. I'm just curious if anyone knows the answer to this.

not an expert but I would think it would have allot to do with how the vet preformed the tail removal.... I imagine that if it was done and stitched it would have a better chance of healing and being covered with hair as the skin is actually brought together tighter with the stitching but I have seem some puppies done and only a blood clotting agent was applied so it was more like an open cut and then I can see where hair would not grow back over the scab....make sense?????

Try NuStock on the tail. It helps hair grow back over a wound.
