Oh my I am so sorry and yes I can relate in many many ways maybe not dobie wise but I have raised minis for several years and I have flet your pain along the way... I had a mare a tiny little thing named Lady Hawke that had been with me for several years and she went into labor and could not have her foal. My daughter worked on her for about 30 min and we called in for help and it took two hours for them to finally cut that foal out of her. My moto is always always save my mare. and well we got her through that and she spent two weeks at the vets and we brought her home then she started going down again so she went to the vets for another two weeks and came home and began having trouble urinating... the scarring was so severe that it was blocking her ability to pass the urine so I had to make the call to put her down. It broke my heart to see her that way... I needed to do what was best for her. sometimes in life we have to look beyond what is best for us and deal with making the right call. my vet told me to focus on all the good times I shared with her and keep those memories with me...to think of all the smiles she gave me instead of the tears.... I wish you the best in finding a treatment that will make your dog comfortable and if you need to talk you can e-mail me
good luck and God Bless

When my last dog was 12 1/2, about six months before I made the 'decision' to help stop her suffering, she had a stroke or seizure or something. She came in the back door and colapsed and started shaking. I rushed her to the vet but he couldn't find anything wrong with her. Over the next six months she got so she could only stand or lay down. If she tried to sit she would start shaking and then slump down. Towards the end she went blind and lost her sense of smell. I kept her going for those six months but knew I had to help her. So I made the call and took her to the vet and held her while she went to sleep for the last time here on earth. I cried buckets about that but I know it was best for her. She was afraid most of the time, especially towards the end, because she couldn't see anymore.

You'll know when the time comes what needs to be done. Like triplecminis said, remember the good times. That's all we can do.

Yes, all the wonderful times you have had with your pup will help. But remember it is about their quality of life. Sometimes I know we want them to be with us longer so much that we make decisions based on our need for them, rather than their quality of life. Enjoy what you have and make the best for her.

We had the same problem with our late dobe, Red. He was diagnosed at 10 1/2 years and lived until last Feb. 9. :( Red did well on the medications and on that day he was acting fine and my wife brought him up to the firehouse for his usual visit with "daddy" and the rest of the guys and he died right in the office. Two guys started CPR and got oxygen for him but to no avail. We transported him to the vet and they were waiting for us as I called while the fellas were trying to save him. I hope that veterinary research can help put a stop to this killer!
