I've never had a dobe (or any other dog) do that, hopefully some of the others on here can answer. Has your pup been tested for Willebrands?

How old was he when you got him? Did he do this when he lost his milk teeth, too? Von Willebrands would be my guess, too. My male has it and the first indicator I had was when I accidentally clipped his nails too short when he was about 8 or 9 weeks old. He shot blood across the room from the one I got too close to the quick on. Then when I took him in for ear cropping the vet mentioned the same thing. You have to wait until he is 6 months old to have the testing done for this. The blood work isn't realible before then.

Or could he possibley have just cut himself chewing on some hard toy or bone after loosing his tooth in that spot. I certainly hope that's all it is. If you suspect this as the cause maybe give him softer things to chew on for a while so the space will clot up.

Hope this helps.

I would check with a vet. If it is Von Willebrands that needs expert input. Otherwise, I have had some blood from puppies as they are loosing their milk teeth. It spooked me bad when I went out to play with my puppies and there was blood on the toys. However it never was dripping or pooling anywhere. Be sure you are giving softer toys as MLR suggests, that may help.
