Jett's ears stink! The edges are healed nice, they are dry with no obvious signs of any infection. The smell seems to be down in the canal. Smells sour. I wonder if it's dried blood down in there. Last evening we tried to clean them out with a damp washcloth, but this morning it smells worse. I think it just stirred the crap up.

Since we've had such problems with her ears, I'm leery of putting any drops or anything that she could sling out and get her stitches wet or cause the suture line to weaken, especially if she goes into those violent shaking episodes that opened her ears up before. I thought about taking a real soft cloth and putting some peroxide on it and try washing them. What do you all think?

no harm in taking her to the vet to get it checked out. If it's an ear infection the vet can prescribe some meds, if it's just full of stinky goo, the vet will be able to properly clean it out

Thanks magtie. After discussing it more with my hubby we decided we'd rather be safe than sorry so she has an appointment at 3:30 today. Good grief I don't think I took my kids to the doc as often our puppies have had to go lately. LOL

I second the take to vet option.. the smell is telling you something is wrong. And because of the recent ear action, I would definately have them check it out.

Thanks jelly8bean. I was away from her for an hour, when I resmelled it, I think it's a yeast infection. Ain't nothin' like sticking your nose down stinky ears...wheweeee!!

Took her to our regular vet since he's only 40 min. away (the cropping vet is 1 1/2 hrs away). Cultures showed yeast and staph. Vet packed her ears with some kind of gooey stuff that contained something that will kill the fungus & bacteria, plus an antibotic (can't remember the name of it right now). She has to have the "packing" every two weeks for two more times. He said she had a nasty case of it. She is also on oral antibotics. The good news is she can have her ears posted next week, we just have to take the posting down the day she has the packing put in next time.

She rested a lot better last night and has stopped the shaking. When we cuddled this morning, no odor...Hurrah. Jett is such a good puppy and I feel bad for her that she's had such a tough time this past week. Hopefully though we're over the hurdle.

I had to giggle yesterday when the vet checked her gums/teeth during the exam. She almost acted proud to show him. She's losing her baby teeth and had bright shiny new ones coming through :D She likes her vet!

So glad you took her to the vet.. staph would not have gone away without antibiotics for sure. Poor baby.. she is having such a hard time right now.. but it will be over soon. And she will be so lovely :) Glad she likes your vet..mine all love the vets I work with, they are great folks and have a wonderful staff.
