Finally got the new Dremel tool out and fired it up this weekend; first job was Deano's nails. Have to say, it's a little weird at first but once you get the feel for it (and you will after a couple paws :) ) it goes pretty well! Deano was a little resistant at first, but eventually just resigned himself to it. Hardest part was positioning myself so that I could get to each of his paws, while holding the Dremel, and be able to orient the grinder rotation away from the nail and do the job. Felt a bit like a contortionist at first!

Makes it very easy to see when you are getting close to the quick, so no more guessing with the choppers for me. Made sure to take breaks and do lots of treats to make it as positive an experience as possible :D.

I have to say.. give me dremel over clippers anytime. My dogs love it much more too.

I'm thinking of buying one. Any suggestions for brands?

I just went with the one named Dremel.. the other brands are called rotary tools.

Dremel brand is the original rotary tool, and in my opinion the best. Many, many uses around the house, for home improvement, repairs, crafts, you name it. They have several different models, I bought a lower-end kit (200 series) that is corded and has some extra tool-tips included, as well as a case. Also has a nice little 'getting started' booklet inside that shows different uses to get you thinking. Plus there are LOTS of other attachment tools you can buy for even more versatility.

Shop around, check online, compare prices. Mine was on sale for ~$40 before Christmas- and the big home centers will generally put them on sale before Fathers Day, Christmas, you get the idea...:D
