Just can't help it... been holding it in for 2 days!! My "Mel" took second place at a beagle field trial Friday in a very tough class of 49. The winner was a beagle twice my girl's age!! I was way proud of her :)

Wow! You and Mel are obviously the pairing to beat! What a great future ahead of you. And with this sort of training experience you should do wonders with your dobiegirl. Have you though about trying coursing with her? That might be a cool hunting sort of activity more suited to the speed and sight attributes of the dobie?

Hey that's great news. Nothing wrong with bragging, when it's well deserved.

Thanks everyone. I'm hopeful that Mel earns her Field Champion title this year. We're working hard on it and she is a very talented girl.
Jelly-I haven't thought about coursing with Jett, but it's certainly worth thinking about. Do you have some good resource links on this?

I don't have any locally but I thought that you might with your hunting connections.
Here is a link I found with some basic info...

I checked out the Amer. Sight hound Assoc. and dobes are not eligible for their events:( So I've emailed my region's member to find out if their club allows "practice". There are 2 clubs in the entire state and both are at least 3 hours from me, but if their clubs allow it is worth day trips anyway and I'd love to go watch some of their events. Sometimes living in the hills isn't most conducive for certain things. Thanks for coming up with this idea Jelly, if nothing else we could set up a course and work with Jett on doing it for some extra good exercise (after she's older and I've learned as much as I can to avoid any risk to her).

Hey .. the good part about living in the hills is that if you figure it out, I bet you can set up your own. You got the space and the motivation.. and then the fun begins!

The neat part is that if we set one up, I have 3 dogs here that can do it. Gosh what an idea...Really got me thinking now...hummmmm.
