What dog movies have you seen recently and what are you planning on seeing? I didn't go to Marley and me because I was well aware that it was not just a comedy and that the end of the movie is at the end of the dogs life. I try not to do that sort of emotional movie. However, today in the paper was a writeup for a new movie called Wendy and Lucy.. a girl down on luck loses dog and searches, don't know about the ending - will wait to hear if it is good before I spend any moola. Then there is Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Bolt, plus dog hotel... kiddy feel good movies. These are right up my ally but I will wait for them on cable rather than paying movie prices. Anyone have any recommendations? Feedback on any dog movies?

Me too, on Marley & Me :D. I'll wait for that to come to the cheap theater, but I do want to see it. Not so sure about Beverly Hills Chihuahua, I'm not much on the talking baby/dog/whatever type of movies, and my kids are grown and out of the house... Think I saw a preview of Dog Hotel somewhere, might try to catch that one too.
I did some searching a while back on dog/doberman movies, and added a few of my finds to my Half.com wishlist (used and older items) to watch for, here's a few:
Eyes of an Angel
Fluke
The Daring Dobermans
The Doberman Gang
The Amazing Dobermans
The last three are a result of the 70's Hollywood doberman craze, but are considered classics; I think I saw one of them growing up but I'll be d*mned if I can remember which :D. What I do remember is that it formed my first impression of dobermans as highly intelligent dogs. They are not cheap, either, even used- they must be becoming collectors items. Of course there's the Beethoven movies, and Turner & Hooch if you like the big slobbery dog type flicks .
Looking forward to everyone's suggestions to add to my list!

I saw the Doberman Gang when I was growing up as well and one of the sequels.. kid and dogs as I recall. I guess it had a hidden influence since I didn't get my first dobie till I was an adult and now I'm committed! I did see some stuff on eyes of an angel.. but I can take that sort of heart string pulling. Turner and Hooch is a fav around here... This is not your room!

Went to see Marley & Me this past Friday, and enjoyed it. Of course, there wasn't a dry eye in the house for the last 20 minutes :o but I thought it was well presented and touching.
I think people need to be reminded that, in return for all the love, loyalty and devotion dogs give, they deserve it all back when they get older and need it. I was there and held my last best friend when it was his time, and wouldn't have missed that chance to hold him as he passed for the world. :(

I too held my first doberman to his last breath and I still tear up thinking about Jax. They just become such a part of you. That is why I just don't do moves where the dogs are abused or die. I see enough real life anguish in my rescue/SPCA work. I love the kiddy movies with the hero dogs!

There is a new true story movie coming out soon about an Akita named Hachi-Ko. He was a dog in Japan in 1920's who was owned by a professor. He commuted every day to work by train and his Akita, Hachi-Ko would follow him to the station in the morning and then go back to meet him in the evening. One day while at work the professor passed away. Hachi-Ko was only 1 1/2 years old. He continued to go back to that train station every single day at four o'clock to wait on his master's train to return. He did this every day until the day that he died. He was 11 years old when he finally passed away. I can't wait to see this movie, the story of Hachi-Ko has long been a favorite for me as I have also been an Akita lover for years. The loyalty of the breed is shown here very powerfully!
We are sure to see alot of hype on this one since I have heard Richard Gere is starring in it.

An absoutely fabulous Movie is "Eyes of an Angel" with John Travolta. Originally made in 1994 but not released until Travoltas carreer was on track (approx 1996). It is of course about a doberman with what I consider VERY GRAPHIC introduction photography...wonderful "wooly" feel good movie.....

I second the motion tidibole. I watched the movie at her house and it was awesome. I am not ashamed to say that it was a tear jerker. I would watch it again.

OK, here's a link to a guy with a blog who has compiled the most comprehensive list I've seen so far...
http://reeldogs.blogspot.com/2009/05/dozens-of-dobermans.html
I had no idea there were so many! He has also noted some of these are TV movies/shows, along with his favorites... remarkably they seem to match ours! :D

Eyes of an angel eh? I shall have to watch that. I was thinking of the doberman gang but can't find it anywhere anymore. I haven't seen that one in years. Other movies with dobes...Embryo...kind of a messed up scary movie and K-9 2 are both worth a watch. I did watch Beverly hills Chihuahua against my will....heheh...it wasn't all that bad! The old Rock Hudson movie.."they only kill their masters" was decent for its day as well.
