From what I have read, Dobermans live for about 8-10 years. I'm curious to hear how old our four legged members are.

To me this life expectancy seems low. I've personally known 5 Dobermans in my time, all if which lived between 11 and 14 years.

Our girl Star is 12 now, and still acts like she is a puppy. I'm trying to figure out our new digital camera, and as soon as I do, I'll put some pictures of her up on the site.

There must be a bit of a language barrier here, I'm not sure what is so funny about that.

Looks like Beth wins this prize with her 12 year old Star. Have you had Star since puppyhood?

My old man Jax was about 11 when he passed. I have a 7 yr old red and a 23 month old blue now. Bigger dogs have shorter lives is what I've heard. Plus all of my dobies have had those nasty fatty lumps as they aged. Not sure where they may have landed inside, or what they may have impeded.

Well so far Beth holds the record with her Doberman Star who is 12. It is nice to hear that she still has lots of energy.

In February we lost our beloved Red at 11 1/2 years. He suffered the past year from cardiomyopathy. He was on medication for that time and we had him an extra year. If it wasn't for that he would probably be here today! We just adopted a new red female a few weeks ago and she's wonderful. She's a year old and all puppy!!!

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure sure your new puppy will keep you busy though.

The longest I have had a Doberman live is 13 years.

The youngest I have had one die is 7 (cardio).

If we make it past 10, I figure we're doing well.

Here in Australia, my neighbor has a Doberman who is turning 15 in the next month or so. He is a lot quieter than he use to be and sleeps alot, but still looks like he has at least a few months left.

Our first female was 13 when she developed cancer. Her son, a 95 lb brute, was 12 when he died from a hit and run, but was in great shape. Our others were between 9 and 12 years when they died of natural causes.

Rocky is just 30 days shy (or so) of 10 y/o. My previous Dobe, Tia, passed when she was 15y/o.

I think it has been said, but in my book, any day past 10 y/o is a gift and needs to be treated as such.

Ralph is 12 1/2 , she too sleeps a fair bit but is energetic when it comes to traets and doing her happy poo dance! Heath problems have been very few, she had a large fatty growth removed from her rear about 2 months ago and is missing a few front teeth! But after her "lipo" surgert she looks great and the missing teeth make her snile all the cuter!! I sure hope I am blessed with a few more years.

Tidibole - Congrats to you and Sammy - Let's see happy 14!!!

Many dogs are not entered but you can check out the DPCA longevity program. They have changed the format and it is not as informatative or as easy to read as it used to be plus it seems they have deleted many dogs for some reason which I feel is wrong.

People should send in all dogs that live to 10 so it can be recorded for future reference.

Unfortunately the life expectancy for males is 9.2 years and females is 9.4. Until 1990 the Russian dogs were living to 14 to 15 years on average and then they started importing and now their live expectancy has dropped dramatically.

We have an 11 1/2 year old that has his good and bad days when he isn't mad at his brothers for running into him youngsters. We are just happy to have him for as long as we can and have enjoyed every day with him.
