all three jumbo crates are in my office right next to my bedroom.... it is a sitting room for my bedroom but I converted it to my office....my house is a large contry style home and it is unique in that there are six doors and a set of french doors that lead outside so of course the best thing is that my office has it's own door and it leads to their safe secure turn out then they come righ back in.... the hubby and I have been talkn about building a sun room off of the office so they have full access to that....

Living room with the t.v. on when we leave. Since we're retired we aren't usually gone very long. She whines when we first put her in because all it takes to get her going is the sound of car keys or seeing me get my purse and she knows we're leaving. She'd much rather go with us even if she is sorta a nervous rider for the first 10-15 min.

All mine are in the bedroom. I worked from home for the last several years so I was around most of the time.

i had my baby in the crate for about a year and half or so(about 8 hours during work), i had it in the kitchen backed against a corner so he felt safe and no one could sneak up on him. he def wined for the first couple weeks, but he got better, i think it was mostly cuz he wasnt used to being alone. i also here if u put a blanket over the top it will make them feel more protected, your baby should get used to it soon. also if u dont get your baby all excited for the first few minutes after u take him out that helped us and giving him treats when we put him in so he thought of it as a good safe place. he used to go lay in his crate by himself till we took it down.
plus he prolly doesn't make those noises all day just when he knows u have gotten home. hope that helps

When I had to leave Sabrina alone for several hours while she was still small and it was to cold for her to be outside, I baby proofed my bathroom and put newspapers down, food and water and then put the crate in front of the door with the large door opening into the bathroom with her blanket, toys, chewy inside the crate. I put something against the crate so she couldn't push against it and move it. She was able to see all through our house, see the cats ect, but was confined in a small safe area. She quickly learned to love her crate and was comfortable sleeping in it or closed in it for a couple of hours, but I didn't want to keep her shut up for 6- 8 hours while we were out of town.
We purchased a full size crate from the beginning and didn't divide it. I never had a problem with any crate soiling. mdl

Deano's XL crate is in our family room, backed into a corner diagonally, near a low window. He is crated when my wife and I are at work, and we leave it open for him at all other times- he is in and out of it surprisingly often, although less of late as he is spending more and more time near us. :)
Just bought another slightly smaller crate (got a tip that Amazon had some pretty good prices right now) to put up in our bedroom, as I want to train him to sleep on a pad in our room. Figured I'd start him out in this crate for a week, then the crate with the doors open but pad still inside, then try the pad out of the crate on the floor where the crate was. I will be traveling for work alot this summer, and do not want him crated if someone gets in the house at night, but neither do I want him roaming free unattended with his tendency to chew/shred stuff.

My dogs have their own room, complete with TV, radio and CD player and when required heater and separate AC. Their crates are 42 wire variety. I buy sleeping bags at the thrift store for their beds in the crates. I only crate when at work or gone. I have multiple entire males that if left to their own devices would probably get into trouble. They have an oriental rug, and a leather chair for the old girlas she does not require crating, wallpaper and show pic, ribbons awards, etc in that room. I live in a moderate sized home sitting on 1 acre. with nothing on either side or behind, which allows a lot of freedom of speech from them..I have 3 separate yards and have recently added a mini horse and there are on occassion, under supervissed conditions, allowed to GRAZE with the mini. It is a HOOT!!!

No mine do not do that. A crate is an excellent tool for a couple reasons and the 2nd biggest IMO is that is helps teach them to be calm and content when in the crate which eliminates all separation anxiety. BUT the key is how you do it. The first rule I follow is first and foremost I do not feel "bad" about putting them in a crate. It is for their own safety and my peace of mind. 2nd it is just one more part of the schedule. Not a biggy it is just part of life. So when I put them in (of course mine are taught this from puppyhood so it makes it much easier - I toss in a doggie bone and chew toy say "kennel up" shut the door and leave. If you make it a biggie then the dog becomes anxious and you create separation anxiety in the dog. The same thing applies to coming home. No biggie and I never greet the dog til our job is done. So I open the crate door and say lets go outside to potty potty. Then we come inside and I can greet them. That way they do not associate excitement with coming or going.
