Hi, everyone! How often do you take your doberman to the vet? Only when he's sick or do you take him for check-ups too? I usually take mine twice in the summer for flea treatments, but otherwise I only take him when he's sick.

I was curious what others do.

Well our big boy, Magnum, has turned in to a huge investment for us. I say that because on top of the initial cost of a pure bread dog, this guy has caused a considerable amount of damage (a lover of leather). He goes to the vet when ever he is supposed to go. Plain and simple.

We're with Rich on this one. We have all invested too much money in our dogs to not keep up with regular vet checks. I say, as often as needed.

I take all five of my dogs to the vet for regular check ups. Sometimes it can seem expensive, but they're part of my family and I would feel terrible if something ever happened to them just because I didn't take the best care that I absolutely could.

Hi everyone I'm Rich's wife to be, and "lover of leather" sums Magnum up. The other day we were sitting around trying to add up all the damage he has caused. Lets just say, we gave up around the 1500 dollar mark. GULP!

We are proud to say though those days are behind us. Knock on wood.

Don't worry Magnum, we still love you.

Broken window $200

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Doberman is no exception. So one should visit a doctor every three months and check about the dobermans nutrition....

I take my dog to the pet clinic twice in a month for general check-up as per my veterinarian's advice. It's important to pick out a veterinarian that you feel confident and comfortable with. One option to finding one is by consulting with a friend that already owns a dog.

I have two dobies and a rottie.. they go thru a bag of food every two weeks at about $40 per bag. They are all in great shape. I take them to the vet when they need it , and at least once a year for heartworm test and shots.

It's important to pick out a veterinarian that you feel confident and comfortable with. One option to finding one is by consulting with a friend that already owns a dog. Feel free to go to the veterinary office whenever you please to take a look around and see if it satisfies the needs of your dog. Ask the veterinarian about the kind of diet your dog should have, as well as the vaccinations he needs to get, medical exams and any other doubts or questions you may have.

I've often heard the alarming phrase: "My dog doesn't need a check-up, he's always been healthy". Didn't you know that an annual veterinary exam is the key to a long-lived, healthy pet?

The annual exam is much more than just a cursory check-up. It is most often during these exams that a veterinarian can pick up the early warning signs of a serious problem that will affect the dog in the future. Serious problems can often be corrected or at least slowed in progress when they are detected early.

Dogs face the same illnesses as we do, such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis and even depression, in addition to unique conditions such as kennel cough and heartworm. So periodic check up with a medical practicioner is very much essential.

Recent research shows that there are natural dog health care treatments that can effectively combat many of these painful conditions. Oftentimes, a combination of conventional and holistic dog health treatment is the best solution.
