Sabrina has chin acne occasionally. I started using stainless steel food and water dishes to see if it would help. She still gets bumps at times. Can't say if the dishes helped or not.
Does anyone's dog rest their mussel on the edge of the water bowl while they are drinking water? She puts her nose on the far edge and laps water as if to keep her nose from getting wet. mdl

what your describing is called faliculites may not be the correct spelling it is not uncommon in dobermans they tend to get it when they are young and still growing. It is in grown hairs and can be cured up easily with an antibiotic from your vet you will have little or no scarring and usually doesn't come back.

Interesting.. none of mine have had this issue. But ingrown hair makes sense.

yeah ingrown hair does make sense as if u squezzze it the hair comes shooting out if it like clumps of hair bullets, also the hair that is still on the raised area aint attached to nothing as if tweezer it it comes out no problem like it is just sitting in the swelled area...

Oh my gosh..Kane has the same thing! (prettty sure) It's like a hard big pimple with hair..had no idea what it was. So, will it go away on its own or do we need to make a trip to the vet?

No you have to go to your vet for an antibiotic probably a ten day supply it will clear up really fast with little or no scaring.

No you have to go to your vet for an antibiotic probably a ten day supply it will clear up really fast with little or no scaring. I had it over the course of the years, generally with younger dogs. I was told it was a form of staph infection and can also be attributed to eating with food residue left on the chin. It does seem to go away. I used a 1-10 solution of bleach water and gently wiped it clean also subtitued with either clavomox or cephalexin...Can't remember...

Chin pimples are a common thing in Dobermans From puppy hood to adults they can get them. For puppies I just clean with a little listerine mixed with water and a cotton pad. they go away after about 12 weeks and are no longer playing with littermates and biting. On an adult Doberman I buy the strident cleansing pads and clean twice a day and then put neosporin on it and it goes away. Plastic bowles can cause them sometimes.

Hello Violator. I also have a dobe that we deal with the chin acne. We are having great success with Listerine mouthwash. We dab it on twice a day with a cotton ball. You might want to give it a try.

Yeah, our 18 month old male from Florida has it. The Florida vet said that its from bacteria in his food bowl. My son was treating him with Antibiotics and a solution of something ( used in humans to control periodontal disease) and when he was brought up to us in February, the chin lesions were dormant but the sores on the tips of his ears were still active. I took him to the vet when I realized the solution wasn't working, and this Ohio vet gave me more antibiotics and some pads with medication ( they looked like acne pads) and in a week the ear stuff was gone. Just today I noticed his chin lesions were large and seeping again so I'll give him the new meds again and see if that doesn't help. He has some serious scaring under his chin as a result.

I'm not entirely sure I believe the whole "dirty dog bowl" story but until I find out otherwise, I'll go along with it. We wash both our dobie's feed bowls in the dishwasher every other day, so I have doubts about the infections source. It may be like acne in people? I know its painful for him but he puts up with my touching and cleaning it with peroxide a couple of times a day.

Hope you have good luck with it, and if you do, please let me know how you did it.

I think all of the topical solutions will work fine we did have a few that would only clear up with an antibiotic hope all works out ok with your guy.

Another thing that does really well for chin acne is Listerine mouthwash. Just wipe it off with a cotton square or cotton ball. Works wonderfully well. If we could just teach them to gargle now.

My boy has had it all his adult life (4 years) I've never worried about it and give an occasional squeeze if it looks sore. A hair usually comes out with it so I agree with the above. Our vet did mention that it can be cleared up with antibiotics but not to worry.

We have always added about 3/4 water or more to the Listerine, never used it full strength. But never seen this rash on the chin either.

The Collie people have used Listerine for years with distilled water for coat dressings. Works on double coated breeds well.
