One of my friends who has goldens has been trying to check up on those rotten fatty deposits. Apparently Goldens get them (as do dobies). She has decided thru some reading, and general personal survey (a couple of vets and 2 dog shows) that the raw diet might help control these.

Anyone have any clues or thoughts? My Jax (RIP) had them, but I only removed one that was interfering with his well being. Sara has them as well, but I have not worried about them because they are not bothering her. Indigo does not have them, but she is still young.

Those with the 'show' dogs working or confirmation.. do your animals get these?

Jelly - Some lines get them some don't but usually after 7 for sure anything can pop up. I have only had one Dobe years ago that got them when she was about 8.

Yes. they are more evident as they age. My Jax didn't get any till he was 8, Sara is now 9 and has two. Any thoughts on diet affecting this?

I have never heard them related to any kind of food especially since mine all eat the same thing. But I would lean more towards genetics or something related. Just like some folks get gout or kidney stones. Usually their particular system can't handle things a normal person eats everyday. At least that is how I relate it until proven scientific studies are done.

I think that I would also lean toward age and genetics. My 13 yr old girl has one approx the size of half a peach on her side and multiude of growths the size of grapes on her belly. Vet set it was of no concern and actually would be more dangerous to remove than leave. She is just a good ol' trooper!!! and still beats up the boys!!!

My friend had 2 daucshunds, both fed the same thing, neither related to each other. One had none and the other has them all over him. They started when he was 10, he's now 13. Had to have one removed, but her vet said to leave the rest alone & believed it genetic. I've never had a dogs with them though so I can't speak first hand.
