I have had my doberman puppy for about 1.5 weeks. He is eight weeks old and weights 9 lbs. I was feeding him 1/3c in the morning and 1/3c at night. He really looks too skinny so as of this morning I stared feeding him 1/2c and will do the same tonight. Is that enough food for my puppy? Your thoughts please.
Thanks

Hello there and welcome to DobermanHub.
I would first suggest following the recommended serving for his body weight on the bag. When our boy Magnum was a puppy we had to feed him more than the recommended amount, at the vet's request. It is important to make sure they have sufficient body fat as a puppy. It is also important to note that dobe pups can put weight on fast, so make sure you are keeping up with the right amount of food for their current body weight.
Magnum for a couple weeks put on a 1/2 pound a day.
Good luck!

What type of food are you feeding him?
9 lbs at 8 wks sounds pretty small. And not even 1 full cup of food a day is quite skimpy. Puppies need more food than adults.

I would definitely feed a puppy all he will eat in one sitting 3 times a day. I would put down one cup and see if he eats it all. If he does I would giive another 1/2 cup. You don't want to over feed but he needs more right now. I have heard that puppies eat 5 X's what an adult eats. No puppy food but feed regular adult dog food. Make sure it is high quality of he might not get enough vitamins and minerals.

Welcome to DH Jessica. I've always fed puppies x3 day and all they would eat at one time starting at about 1 cup per feeding too. Has your pup been to the vet yet? Do you have any pictures to post?

Well sad to say that we sold Willy last night to ppl whom had a much bigger place. Thanks for all the info and no worries, Willy was in great health when we sold him. I had taken him to the vet and got him his first set of shots. I will miss the little guy.

We got Willy from a friend who thought that we would just love him as a gift. We did and I didn't want to give him up but my boyfriend and I live in an apt that is up stairs and dobermans are a banned breed at our complex. As much as we wanted to keep him we both knew it wasn't possible. He will need a big yard and we just cant afford that at the moment.

It is really sad to think you may have placed him because of "lack of room" As I have indciated more times than I want to admit...the most energy my boys exhibit is simply from the bed to the couch, to the food bowl outside (weather permitting) and YES, back to the couch...I hope it all works out for you and HIM!!!By the way you could always have said hewas not a dobe but a LONG EARED COONHOUND...
