I would love to see a Blue Doberman in person. Doberman's in general draw a lot of attention. Imagine walking this guy down the street.

Wow, gorgeous dog! I didn't know they ever came in a blue color. Very very nice looking. I'd like to have one like that. I bet they're more expensive.
I see that this is a lot better than the white one in the previous thread you have started.
Now.. Where is the Red Doberman??
oh good picture ..The blue doberman dog looks great but the picture here is so dull and the dog looks too anemic in this picture .

very good looking dogs for sure
oh i came to know from reading this post that blue dobermans really look good and cute ..Hope let me find a blue doberman soon..But this picture is really good...
This Doberman is a power packed medium sized dog. The Dobe has a beautifully wedge shaped head, a well arched neck that flows into smooth fitting shoulders which blend into a firm strong topline. awesome..

I ran into a local pet store recently to grab something. I glanced over at the puppies and they had a beautiful blue doberman puppy...I think it was a female. It broke my heart to see her sleeping there all alone in that cage. Made me sad to leave her there...:(
I wish it were illegal to sell dogs in pet stores!!

Breeders should be the only place a dog is sold.

We have recently rescued a blue dobie, and he is something to behold. I will post a pic for you to see. They are rare and pretty. Many blues have a hard time keeping their coats up because of the recessive gene that causes the color. Our blue is slowly regaining his coat. Boudreaux came to us as a rescue from a kill shelter, scheduled to be put down that day. We got him just in time. When we got him 6 months ago, he was nearly hairless on his back, but flaxseen oil or fish oil seems to help it grow more.

Here are two pictures of 2 of my beautiful Blue girls as puppies that live in Illinois. The older one is 8 and the younger one is now 7. They are getting a red female this year from us. Both girls still have a full coat and I will post pictures of them today that they sent me.

There are quite a few blues in the Miami Valley ( ohio) but at least half of them have skin problems and thin coats. My little blue girl is almost HAILESS on her belly, poor thing, and she gets really cold in the winter. She doesn't have the sores or dermatitus that some do, though, and I'm thankful for that because when its bad, they can reall y produce a foul odor. I've been using DERMACHLOR 4% on her to control dermatitus and skin issues. ( Chlorhexadine is the active ingrediant, same as most dentists use as a mouth wash before a prophylaxis )
Does anyone have some more "organic"- non chemical suggestions for coat and skin issues ?
I feed them raw meat and chicken, and they eat copious amounts of any fresh veggies and fruits that we have from the garden and frozen, plus I always have cooked sweet potatoes to put in their dry kibble, cottage cheese, etc. Jeez, now that I think about it, they eat better than I do ?? LMAO.
I have never owned a delute but there are some others on our list that have- My mother in law has a blue rescue and she uses something from the vet-
When they don't have skin problems, they are beautiful- Well, all dobermans are beautiful, just some more than others.
But love to come to dinner with all those fresh veggies!

Yes - you need to come cook for us two while you are at it. Pretty sad isn't it when we spend more time cooking for the dogs than ourselves.
Do you have her on any supplements??? I know when showing Shasta I gave her fish oil caps, Folic acid, and B 50. I have heard the Norweign kelp is good for coats.
I have a Blue dobie, he only shows his true color in the sun light.
Blue is the least appealing color to me, I like Black/Rust, Fawn, Red then Blue in that order. We all have our preferences, that is mine. :) I'd like to own a Fawn someday, I found a breeder that strictly bred Fawns when I lived in Oklahoma in a small town called New Castle, but I moved away before I was able to purchase one. I found a great deal on a 6 month old Female Fawn during the winter, but she was sold by the time I contacted the seller who by coincidence recently began posting here.
Fawns and Blues are not rare at all and breeders what just breed for dilutes, are not that kind of breeder i wanna do business with. If you Wanna own a dilute, you better do your homework first. Here this side its good to start with http://www.seattle-attorney.com/storm/sup.html . D4E has and had some nice fawn and blue puppies in live, but she didn't bred for them ;). But she will tell you also, what you will get yourself into, if you own one, not always, but it can be and like some people said, they can have skin problems and thin coat.
And here is a pic of MY blue Boy Apollo :D

He is a good looking boy Aesa!....Very regal looking. :)
Thanks everybody. I know i got lucky with him, but always try to educate people when it comes to blue and fawns. I'm tired to hear they are rare, they arent, if you look in the rescues there are so many of them, looking for a new home, because people didn't know, how to take care of them. would i get another blue, probably not ;) Oh well enough ranting LOL
They aren't rare and many do have skin problems. Owners have to be prepared for that because it can be expensive and time consuming. What things do you do to keep your blue's coat so nice? Anything different?

I don't know LOL, he gets 4 Gel capsules of Flaxseed,Fishoil and Borageoil a day (1 for each 20 lbs body weight), i get them at walmart, the human kind
2 capsules of VIT. E and C
Its on PP shredded chicken and rice and gets raw frozen bones, Beef rib bones or knuckle bones.
If i bath him i use the "DUXO" 3% Chlorhexidin shampoo for him and after wards i spray on him "Equiss" Premier Natural Botanical Equine Rehydrant Spray ( leave in Moisterizer) ( i use this on both of my dobes )

I just wanted to share, the province of Ontario now has a law where no pets are allowed to be sold at pet stores. The only place you can get them is at a licensed breeder :) This will take effect some time this year.
The picture of this Blue Dobie is for sale :( I wonder if he found a new home yet...

I'm new here and just searched "blue doberman" on the forum search and came upon this thread. My first and only dobe, Ruger is a blue. His coat was excellent when I first got him at 3 months old. I did not purchase him, a friend did who ended up highly disliking ruger as a pup and gave him to me. I'm not sure why, their personalities just clashed. I had always wanted a dobe- he just gave me this expensive puppy- and I was PUMPED!
Truthfully, I love the classic black and rust dobes and intend to have one, one day, when I'm officially out of college with a lotta land and a big house of course. But Ruger is blue and hey, can't complain about a free pup! Anyway I totally adore him, he's almost 3 years old and is a truly great dog. Incredibly goofy but amazing.
I have no clue if he's fancy or even properly built. He has fluid movement, a great temperment, zero health problems and is AKC registered, I have his whole lineage on papers. His coat has become more sparse as he's aged but he still has a pretty good coat for a blue (or so I'm told by vets who've seen other blues) just kinda bald on the top of his head and a little more sparse on his flanks. He has no "sores" or bumps though. I had a complete thyroid test done (the way too pricey one they send to MSU or where ever) and it came back totally clean which told us that his coat issues are indeed from color dilution alopecia (CAD) and not a thyroid condition.
So I pretty much leave his coat alone. I only bathe him when he's really dirty or stinky with Malaseb shampoo (available at the vet) and spray his coat with Vetrolin Shine, which is actually a horse product which I have sworn by since the stuff hit the market. It makes horses coats so dark shiny and healthy that their tails even grow overnight- I feel like it does at least.
Give it a try if you have a local horse supply store!

I fed him Nutro Large Breed puppy when I got him at 3 months old to when he was a year old. It was freakin EXPENSIVE and I had to drive an hour to get the food (diesel ain't cheap either). So then we switched to Pedigree large breed. I knew it was important for him to have high quality food when he was growing so quickly.
I know, I know, it's not an ideal feed. But I am an agriculture major with a minor in beef cattle management and have access to some fantastic teachers at my university. So I spoke with the nutrition professor at our vet school on the subject of dog food and after a 3 hour convo I felt fine with my decision.
Ruger loves the Pedigree. I also aid his diet with fresh raw beef and lamb which I get from our school's meat processing building (my major professor runs it so I know exactly what I'm getting (for free)) and supplement him with fish oil, leftover bacon grease etc to help with his coat.
The only thing I've noticed after switching to the cheaper kibble is he can produced the most fowl gas I have ever been around every now and then. Needless to say living in a tiny apt that I keep febreeze in stock!
My previous Dobe could eat anything without gas, he rarely farted. My new pup is putrid, his gas is slowing going away since I made the switch to 4health and slowly worked it into his diet.

Kinda puts up a red flag on your breeder. Sorry but Blues aren't rare at all, but can have skin and coat issues, and take a little more care to prevent or treat this issue. Don't know why your breeder would try and pass the dog off as being rare, except maybe to make a sale.
I agree with breesmom, blues arent rare at all ( i have one) they are a dilute from blacks and asking for more money because of the color is a redflag.
And if you look at the rescues, you will find a lot of blues and fawns there. The thing with fawns and blues is, that they can get some skin and coat issues and everybody should know how to take care of them before they get one. But one thing is sure, they arent rare at all ;)
