what has the breeder had him on? you cant just switch him, believe me I have just switched my pup to blue buffaloe. anyway there are alot of premium dog foods out there which is what I would stick too. I think everyone has a different dog food they have their dog on mine was on nutro and now like i said the blue buffalo. Alot of awesoem advice on here though good luck and send us some pics my baby is 8 months old.

I'm not sure what the breeder has him on yet...we pick him up tomorrow and she is giving us a care package that includes the food she has had him on...I am just trying to decide on what kind of food to give him after he is finished with the food she had him on...it is either Eukanuba or Science Diet. Thanks for the response...I have a few pics of him in my photo albums as he has grown over the past few weeks but I will have new pics of him up by the end of the weekend since he will be home!! Brody is a beautiful Dobe! I love his name as well!

Most important is don't feed him puppy food just regular adult dog food.. It is not good for Dobermans. Causes too rapid growth and can lead to wobblers, CVI and other joint and bone problems. Also no calcium. If his ears are done I would put him on vitamin C to help support the ears standing.

I have spent a really unreasonable amount of time researching dog food online and talking to people (vets, trainers, etc) and I decided on Blue Buffalo as a quality food that I could readily buy (and afford on a grad student's salary). My dog absolutely loves it and every

Keep in my that JUST because your breeder gives you a Puppy Care pkg does not necessarily indicate that is the food the puppy has been eating. The care pkg's as I call them can be obtained FREE from certain Dog Food Companies to breeders who are reg'd with their company. So you may want to consider asking whether that is REALLY the food the puppy has been fed. I generally fill up a plastic bag with the food that I have been feeding (when I have puppies) and it goes home with the baby.. I don't like puppy food for older puppies as I feel it is to rich and can cause problems in their bone. Larger breed dogs grow so fast! I also prefer keeping a puppy on the slimmer side rather than that cute chunky puppy. By the time they are 10 weeks old or perhaps a bit younger I put them on a good adult food (small peas size pieces) I am sure that there will be MANY different opinions however, this has just always been a workable thing for me.

So when you switch from the puppy food to "regular adult" food. Did you feed him/her "large breed adult" dog food? or does it not matter?

I never feed a puppy - puppy food - as it has the potential to cause way too many problems with bones and joint issues. So my puppies from day one are on the same food as my big dogs.
I also nver feed a PG bitch puppy food which I have known vets to recommend and then they have to do a C section because the puppies get to big to be born naturally.
