Vet wants us to use an ear wash every couple of weeks on one of our dogs to maintain an acid environment for yeast infection prevention. Anyone have a home recipe for this? I've heard about listerine & alcohol mix, but don't know for sure. Of course I can buy a wash, but saving $ is good if home remedy would work as well. Thanks!

Sue I use Tea tree oil, witch hazel and a touch of mineral oil. Two of three drops of tea tree oil, to about 1/3 cu witch hazel and a Tbl spoon mineral oil. Alcohol and listernine are not as good for the ear as it dries it out and causes it to flake into the ear instead of seep out The tea tree oil will kill any mites etc and the mineral oil keeps the ear wax flowing so it can seep out. I do clean the ear with alcohol before putting in drops to get the dirt out.

I use a mixture of 30/70 Listerine to water for a quick spruce up of coat but not alcohol again listerine has alcohol in it so don't want too much or it dries out the skin. I usually then spray them with Skin so soft and rub massage it in with fingers to replace oil that spray took off and I for one love the smell and it does repel mosquitos.

I have heard of using 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 vinagar to clean the ears. I haven't used it. Have any of you?

Avon's Skin so soft is wonderful! Use it on the dogs and us to repell. It's much better than stinky poisons.....only use it on the coat or skin.

I buy a solution from vet, he makes it himself...don't know what it is, don't care, it does a fabulous job on my OLD BASSET's Ears. she has very thick leather and a small canal opening, so it can be challenging. It brings all teh "yuk" to the top and what is even better she dosen't hate it...

Thanks. I'll try the tree oil if I can find it.
