We went out of town on friday and drove for 10 hours. Brody would not poop thewhole time, he finally pooped on sat pm. Sunday we were at a bbq and someone geve him 2 hotdogs! he has never eaten human food, sunday afternoon he started with diarrea, just 2 times. monday drove home 10 hours and got home he had again, Tues sometime in the am hours he had diareea on the kitchen floor! he is drinking and I stopped his food and have been giving him white rice and boiled chicken. the diarea stopped he just pooped and it was bright orange!!! I am worried? has anyones babies gotten sick from hotdogs? if he had eaten somthing and it was stuck what would be going on? sorry i cant spell!

Samantha - sorry you are having this problem. I give my puppies hot dogs for treats so it really should not cause that much problem. Mine poop bright orange when I feed them Pumpkin but if he is only eating boiled chicken and rice he should be getting better. There is a chance when they get loose stools a bacterial infections sets up in the digestive track and intestine. I would think at this point a trip to the vet is needed just to be sure - he might need an antibiotic.

how long do you think he should stay on the chicken and rice?

If he is not better tomorrow I think it is time for a vet visit. He may need an antibiotic to get over it. And to answer your question on blockage which I forgot to do. They usually drink a lot at first, stop eating or if they eat or drink throw it up because it can't go down.

My rule of thumb is if they are not better in 48 hours I go to the vet. Don't want things to lead to complications. Keep us posted - hope the vet can cure it in a hurry and he is feeling better soon.

Let us know how Brody is doing when you get back from the vet. Good luck. I think he probably just needs and antibiotic also.

One other thing to remember is hot dogs are high in sodium which is not good for a dog and any change in a diet is likely to bring on diarrhea especially in a young dog who is not used to people food. I would still have the vet check him but you did the right thing by switching his diet as a rule of thumb dehydration is the biggest thing. You might want to give him pedialite until you see the vet as it has electrolytes in it.

Wishing Brody a speedy recovery from what he has. It does not sound too serious but it would be smart to get him checked by a vet. good luck

Glad to hear he is on the mend. I treat a lot of things myself but if I don't see postive results in a couple days I head to the vet. I have a whole pharmacy of basic necessities that usually do work but I will not risk a babies health. I head for the vet.

Glad to hear Brody's doing better. They sure can lose weight fast, can't they. Take heart though. Jett lost 5 lbs. in 3 days with gastroenteritis. She put it back on plus some more in just a few days.
