Why do they eat that?

I have been thru quite another scare with Indigo. About two weeks ago she had a really bad day with vomiting etc. I got really worried when she didn't eat her dinner. So next day I take her to the vet and they check her all out and can't palpate anything so they get a poo sample and think it is spoiled food (which can happen here in the summertime). They give her fluids and some meds. She perks up for a day. The next day.. she is lackluster and clearly feeling bad. She isn't eating again, and now there is nothing coming out the back either. We go back to the vet.. they take some blood but still can't figure it out, so we schedule an ultra sound. The day after the ultra sound ... Bingo. Out comes a complete (one tear) tube of A&D ointment. How she passed that thru her system is a complete mystery. I know she must have gotten it months ago because I've been very careful about things since her chocolate incident. Anyway once it passed she is fine again. That dog is going to finance a new suite at the vets office.

Jelly8bean - so glad to hear she is OK. I am surprised the vet did not take an X ray of the intestinal track to check for obstruction. I swear these dogs can FIND more stuff!!! Give her a big hug and tell her we are all GLAD it passed. The other option is not so good.

No Kidding.. the vet said that because it was so far along the digestive track out neither the ultrasound nor an xray would have showed it up. I don't know about that, but I'm just glad we didn't have to have surgery.

Well - the important thing is she passed it all on her own. Bless her heart. I have not cue what possesses them to eat foreign objects. I think it is some strong desire to conquer anything. But to swallow it - UGH!!
