My baby is 14 weeks now. My vet said he wants me to feed her a good quality adult food as she seems to be growing fast and he doesn't want her to have bone issues or over calicium...something, something. I am using Pro Plan Sensitive Stomachs...I forget the flavor! I think it wa salmon and rice? What do you guys think? The breeder says this is common at this stage, and she agrees with my choice of food. She also recommended a diet called Wellness. Any thoughts? How much should I feed her? She gobbles up 2 cups in the morning- leaving nothing; she eats 2 cups at nite too and there may be 1/4 cup she leaves. Sound good?

They do grow fast I'm sure others will way in on this subject one of the things we came across was feeding cottage cheese with there food may be 2 table spoons which helps them absorb the nutrition and vitamins so that they don't get growing pains. We used to give vitamin c for this but just like people most of it will be released in there urine if not absorbed. I'f you look at the bag of food I think you will discover it is low in protein which is the direction your vet wants you to go again there are breeders on here that can probably tell you much more than I can there is a feeding and nutritional plan that the veterinarian school of Pen State developed that we use with our personal dogs that works fine with no growing pains but there are many others that will be just as good.

Thanks Big Dogs. I have been looking at labels and all so much, but you know it is so much to try to discipher. I think the people at Petsmart think I am crazy for standing there reading bag after bag!!!

I fed olive Blackwood 2000 which is a puppy food but added milk or cheese to it for a while while she was smaller and she never got pano... I think though that within a breed, some dogs just are more prone to it, depends on the dog.

It is not recommend that Doberman puppies eat puppy food. It is recommend that they be fed a good quality adult dog food. You may PM me if you would like some info on taking care of a Doberman puppy. You also do not want to give them calcium for the same reason - can cause major problems when the dog is older.

Thanks Dobs4... I remember our old girl, we were told that about the calcium, but our vet then always said puppy food was fine. I have to say, with all the new foods that aren't designated "puppy" or "adult", I am kinda out of that phase with my dogs anyways! Thanks for the help guys. We decided to stick woth Pro Plan Sensitive for right now. She seems good on that.
