I have been down for a couple of days guyss, but hope everyone and dogs are good.
Ok- Hali comes out of her crate after her dinner last night and has an egg x 2 size lump of puss on her knee. It was not there earlier. Could something swell with so much puss so quickly? I was out in the back yard cutting grass and getting into the wooded area of our lawn more. I am trying to work it back further for more yard. I do worry about snakes but I did have Cilla the faithful snake killing terrier! Hali stayed more in the civilized part of the yard because she was afraid of the weed whacker and such. I am wondering though if something bit her. Lanced it open last night and I was amazed at the amount of puss that came out of that thing!! Had to be 20cc+!! I cleaned it up well and gave her anti-biotic. Took her in this morning and vet wasn't sure either and said something could have bit her but he doubted snake. He gave more anti-b's and pred for the inflam. She seems fine but that area is still swollen and seems like the joint is inflammed too. No puss though...just kinda plump.
Anyone experience something like this? Maybe spider or what?

Aw, I don't know what it could be but I thought I'd say that I hope she feels better soon!

Shrock did something like this when he was about 15 months old. Scared me to death. I noticed at about 8:30 that night he had a small swelling on his left ear at the base. I give him a benedryl in case it was a bee sting. By 11:00 pm it was the size of my fist.

I watched him and by morning it was the size of a football and he looked like he had mumps. I took him to the vet who say infection. I think somehow he got a puncture wound in his ear. Vet drained it and then put him on antibiotic. He was fine in a couple days but he sure did look funny til all the swelling went away.

She is doing good. It was definitely a snake bite we now know. She is no worse for wear but I was!! Doc says she should be fine...we just have to keep infection down and hope the tissue doesn't necrose.

How scary.snakes, thanfully its not something we have to worry about here in Northern Scotland.we do have some adders, not that I have ever seen any or even heard of anyone being bitten by one. Hope Hali makes a speedy recovery, hope she is getting even more fuss and attention after her little scrape.

Poor gal...she is going thru final ear tapes this week and now leg wound cleaning. I am worried guys...the tissue around the two punctures of the snake fangs looks dead. It is kinda peeling and such. She doesn't feel a thing around it. She is so good...she stands there while I clean it. The skin seems to just rub off. My vet has this wait-and-see attitude.

We've had beagles snake bit and the skin often dies around the fang punctures especially if the snake is poisonous. What kind of snake do you think it might have been? Keep monitoring her for changes and stay close to your vet. Good luck!

Oh, Sue, I am lucky. I live 3 door down from my vet...I can run accross the yard if I need too!
Wel, my husband saw a Copperhead out by the shed twice and he was too illusive to catch and kill. My terrier has been giving him hell though!! We cleaned out the shed today and I think we are going to demo it and bring in a nice Gazebo and family grilling area.
She seems good. The swelling is all gone now, but the skin looks terrible. She is still on anti-b's and off pred (thank goodness- ahh, the peeing!!). I have been alternating bactine spray with vitamin E oil on the spot.
I am going to post some new pics of her soon. We have the ears up one last time and I think we are good, so I will put up pics then! That way you guys can see my beautiful girl!! Thanks
