I have the "Ivomec" injection for cattle in the 50 ml bottle. I am going to use it to treat Sophia's demodex. Im not a big needle guy, so i will administer it orally. How much should i give her? and how long do i continue to give it to her. Any help would be great.

Any help would be great.I use Ivomec injectable orally for the prevention of HeartWorm and have for the past 15 years on my Dobes, Weims and occassional Basset. I would suggest that YOU DEFINATELY contact your vet BEFORE you do anything as Rhiannon had initially suggested. I keep my dogs on H/W preventive 12 months out of the year (never know when they could encounter a rogue mosquito) but you definately want to make sure that you don't get a counter reaction. There is also a POUR ON ivomectin so it is to your best interest that you contact the vet that is currently treating the dog before employing this product. Good Luck

I have , as I mentioned used it for the prevention of HeartWorm according to the dosage calculated by MY VET. I have used it for the past 15 yrs as I know many others that have as well. I have not seen side effects and the dogs on this have lived to be the normal or older age for their breed. I generally start puppies on it at 4 months. There are some breeds that cannot tolerate Ivomectrin....SO before you decide to use this product...CONTACT YOUR VET as none to my knowledge on this forum are VETS. Links were supllied on one of the previous posts that may be of help to you in answering additional questions.

Glad to hear you are going to the vet. Our vet advises us on dosage of ivor for our beagle kennel, and we've used it for years with no problems and all of the heartworm tests have been negative so far (knock on wood). Like Tidibole says some dogs can't tolerate it so your vet should check your dog and run tests before preventative. We do not use ivor with our dobe, she's on Interceptor because it was our vet's preference and my husband preferred using what the vet wanted. Please let us know what your vet says.

So what did the vet say? I would think that there may be some differences in the potency of ivermectin on different breeds.

We don't have a problem yet with heartworm as yet.....although I did hear that it had reached UK shores last summer.maybe thats whay I never heard of using a chemical for cattle on dogs. Have always been told to be very very careful with ivermectin and touching our own skin..thats whay I asked my question re this. Learn something every day.

Learn something every day.I have never found IVOMEC to be an issue on the skin. Let's face if, if put in a dog's mouth, I would think skin is secondary. As I have mentioned too many times already, I have fabulous results on my OWN dogs for the past 15 years but it is mandatory to validate anything new with your vet. Originating in the Pacif NW, there was not a problem with HW there, but it certainly is in the MW...Good luck, maybe it will not reach your shores!!!
