We took Magnum to a local dog training school and weren't that happy with it. We found there were too many dogs and not enough individual attention given to the dogs.

We also found the instructor didn't seem comfortable with the bigger dogs.

The owner seemed very knowledgeable about dogs and dog training, but seemed overwhelmed with the class size.

We know of others who went through the same dog school and had similar experiences?

Anyone else like to share their experiences with obedience training.

Yes, I had a similar experience last year when I had put my doberman in a reputed dog school. Then a friend of mine suggested that instead of enrolling the dog in a school, it is better that I learn more on dog training from an institution. Then I joined the "Smart dog" where experienced faculty taught me how to set rules and train my dog to behave appropriately from the very beginning. It works. Try it Rich S.

I've always believed that if you take the time, you should be able to do your own dog training. When dealing with dogs, knowledge is power. Do some reading and ask other (who have well behaved dogs) for some advice.

I think it is also important to recognize that all breeds are different. A training technique that works well for a lab may not work well for a Doberman.

I think if your new to owning a dog, than yes, there are benefits to going to puppy school. If you willing to put in the time each day, you can train your own dog.

If you want to get your Doberman in to Agility, than doing the various levels of dog training is essential.

I say level 1 for the socialization and after that...save yourself the money and do it yourself.

Yes , it will be really usefull if we go to any of training institutes and learn about dogs and we can give daily care to our own dogs. The training for a doberman is little difficult compared to other dogs...

I have watched Max and others progress through various levels of training, with the trainers chief concern being preparing the dog and owner to meet the challenges of introducing themselves to the public.

The Dog School, (formerly Canine K - 12 ), was started in 1987 when Jamie Shaw, the founder and owner, saw a need for a new kind of dog training. We use the theory of animal learning to train and teach dogs to be very user-friendly for their owners. We use love and gentle training methods to teach our canine friends how to live in a human world. While our homes seem like a natural place for dogs, to them it is a strange and confusing world.

Rope toys look like fringed carpets and squeaky toys look like children's toys. Your dog doesn't know where the bathroom is or when it's okay to bark. They have so much to learn. At The Dog School we provide all the information you need to have your dog be a happy, well adjusted member of your family.

We also work with older dogs and dogs that have behavioral issues. While specializing in aggression problems we also help solve separation anxiety, why your dog won't come when you call, how to stop your dog from jumping on people and more.

We believe in spoiling dogs! We do it with our own dogs and we wouldn't expect you to do anything else. It's okay with us if your dog eats "people food" or sleeps in your bed. If those things don't cause problems we're all for it. We only want to make your life with your dog the best it can be!

A certified trainer can give a show for people so they can learn and tech their own dogs daily...It is a waste for sending a dog to school...

Ya I think they should either hire more people. or set aside different time for dogs.
