Hello everybody my name is Larry from NY and I just joined the wonderful world of Doberman ownership! Loki is 11 weeks old and a beautiful pup! Hopefully I will have some pics up here soon!. Anyway I need some advice on potty training. He goes on the leash very well. He'll do his business outside. Then when we come back in he'll go again inside. Also Whats the best way to crate train him. Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to DH Ghostrider and Loki. Hope you'll find us a good bunch. On the potty training I have a question. Do you bring him back in the house immediately upon him going? If so, keep him out longer if you can. Don't know your living situation but also does he always have to be on a leash when outside?

Thanks for the warm welcome! No I dont bring him right back in after he does his business. Also he doesnt have to be on a leash when I am in the back yard with him, only when I'm in the front.

Ghostrider not knowing how much experience you have with dogs if I tell you something you already know excuse me. Here are some tips we have used through the years. Puppies usually have to go to the bathroom when they first wake up, when they get done eating and when they have played for a while. When you take him out side tell him to go pee or poop and when he does give him allot of praise. Puppies will go pee sometimes two or three times when they are outside. When he finds a spot he likes to go in take him to the same area every time as this will help him to understand what you want him to do. I like to keep puppies on a lead for the first couple of weeks when going outside as they can become easily distracted if left to run and forget what they had to do until they get back inside. As far as crate training leave the door to the crate open and let him go in and out for a while, make a game of it throw his favorite toy in there and let him go in and get it. Give him a treat when he goes inside you can even feed him in there with the door open. When he realizes it isn't a bad thing let him go in and shut the door for a minute and give him a treat. Open the door and let him back out make a game of it by saying kennel up and when he does shut the door and give him a treat increasing the time he is in the crate. Just remember one thing he is a puppy they can't be left in the crate for long periods of time. OH by the way welcome to DH there is allot of good information here enjoy.

Thanks for the great advice BigDogs! I have had dogs all my life, but Loki is only my second puppy. To be truthful I forgot how much work a puppy is since its been so long since my last dog was a pup. Thanks for all the help!
