For the past few months I have been considering to breed my red male doberman, but on the document I have there is a check mark in the box where it says I do not plan on breeding the dog. I was wondering what I have to do in order to change this status so that I would be able to breed my dobe and get the proper papers for the puppies.

Thanks for the help,
-Ben

Not sure what document you are referring to. Is it a registration application or registration certificate? What registry are the papers from (AKC, UKC, CKC)?

We would have to know what registry the dog is registered with. And if the breeder on the puppy checked for limited registration only the only way that could be changed would be for the breeder to do so. Usually if the breeder sells the puppy on limited they won't lift the restriction as they do not want the puppy used for breeding purposes. Check with your breeder first.

A lot depends on what your intentions are and what your dog has to offer the breed as a whole.

I have seen several pups placed on Limited Registration and the breeder lifting the Limited status and granting Full Registration down the road. Granted these were from extremely exceptional litters and the breeder wanted to watch the growth & development of a pup that showed potential and evaluated the dog periodically.

Who is the breeder? I would talk with them. Only the breeder can give you full registration.

Not every doberman should be bred. They should be health tested and have no Z factored or albinos in the pedigree. In addition, conformation and temperament matter. There are no good homes for all the dobermans bred and some end up in horrible situations such as dog fighting, puppymills etc. It is sad for the dogs and some of these people are tricky to get your dogs. You have to also be prepared to take any puppy produced back so that they don't end up in rescues etc. It is a big responsibility. Many responsible breeders sell limited to ensure their dogs aren't used to make money or because the fact they are not the best representation of the breed. This doesn't mean they aren't good pets. Since you bought the dog limited, I think that the breeder maybe able to explain all this to you.

I don't have puppies often but many are sold limited and here's why for me.

I hope this helps this make a decision on your dog and hope the breeder will help you. Keep us posted. Do you have a picture of your dog?

I agree, talk with your breeder. SO much more involved than just liking your dog and thinking he should reproduce. Stud owners should be just as responsible for puppies their Dog produces as the Bitch owners are for those pups too.

I agree with the previous posts, it seem like limited reg. Do contact the breeder before moving fwd. Also, I see no where were you listed the registry.

Best wishes,
