What are your thoughts on the Garden this year? It is nice we have.video of some of the breed judging.

I have been watching. I have to admit I am particulary interested in the Whippet that took a Group 1. Watching again tonight. I know now why the entry was down a little at the Indy Winter Cluster. A lot of the Cambria dogs must have been there.

I guess the PETA even spend their money on going to Madison Square Garden. I wonder why they don't use the money on the shelters instead of tickets to this event. It is all against the AKC breeds and all for those breeds that are dumped on our road everyday. I mean maybe they need to donate to the rescues instead of buying tickets and paying for media? Just not right!

Oh wow. They just don't ever quit. They apparently don't know that the people who exhibit the dogs etc are usually not the people who ever have their dogs end up in shelters. Most exhibitor - breeders will take back anything they ever have bred for the lifetime of the dog. Peta will continue to take every chance they can to make a statement and cause a scene. Have you seen the latest that they are trying to use regarding the Duggars the family who have 19 children. “Doggies Multiply Faster Than Duggars.”
I find it crude and ridiculous. I agree with you donate to rescues instead of buying tickets to make a scene. But that is their usual method of shocking the public.

Their goal is that no one breeds dogs because they want us all to adopt rescues. Eventually, their goal is clear that there are to be no pure breed dogs or maybe even dogs as pets at all. They need to spend their money on helping the situation, not attending Westminister in NY. Wonder if these peta pets flew in? Tickets aren't cheap. Just not proper.

I'm a little late to the party here but I've been watching both the National and the Westminster shows. God help me but I can't turn them off once they're on! :D
I'm really disappointed that CJ did not get BIS at WKC. I can't believe that guy picked the Scottie out of that group, and I thought the Whippet was awesome as well; what the heck did he see in that terrier??? Obviously the crowd was backing CJ as well, and the bubblehead commentators had the balls to pass it off as 'New Yorkers always love a Dobie' or something similar. I thought it was a closer battle for CJ in Group against the boxer, the malamute and the tibetan mastiff- all beautiful animals.
Now, I know it's not just a beauty contest ;) so I'm chalking this up to intangibles or factors not televised; but I hope we'll see more of CJ next year- that is one awesomely trained, groomed and handled dog.

Yes, she was beautiful and so good for the breed to have a doberman in the group for people to see. I was pulling for her too but when you get in the BIS Company at the garden, they all are all tremendous examples of the breed. Just the judges opinion and really can't be wrong with those choices.

Dang that toy poodle could move. Did anyone see that? Lol:)

I just saw a new bumper sticker at the Indy Winter classic shows. It said
"Animal Rights Means No More Animals." You know I can totally understand why the rescues are so overwhelmed with dogs being dumped into rescue. I personally know of someone who has dumped a whole litter of basset puppies into rescue and then thought she was doing them a favor because they made money off of her. I am truly sad that the person misses the whole point. If you are going to breed then you need to be responsible for what you breed. This means contracts etc. But I am sure this is why Peta does all that they do to make things hard for all of us. They are behind so much of the breeding legislation and it is absurd.

I guess there will always be people trying to make a buck off the backs of dogs and then those that dump dogs when they are too much trouble. Just wrong!

Peta just wants none of us to have dogs as pets......think it's their goal....like we need a pack of dobermans roaming around. LOl.

I always say better late than never. Hehehe. It is honestly great fun to see someone else addicted to dog shows as we are. Carissa DeMilta did a beautiful job handling CJ. She is actually the third generation of her family to handle dobermans. CJ just turned four years old on the 15th of February. I have been told that she is retiring now to move on to bigger and better things. I would bet that they would like to breed her as she is such a great dog. Carissa has done such an awesome job showing her they have been wonderful ambassadors of the breed.

I am going to post some really great pictures of them on the Show Dogs Group for people to look at. I think it is great to see families continuing on for generations in the sport of dogs. I am proud to say that we will have our third generation of owner handlers coming out this spring. She will be showing one of our female dobermans and we look forward to watching her grow into as good of a handler as her mom is. If I could only do as good as my daughter does. But hey I am out there showing my own female this year myself so it's all good. I have a Ch. Trotyl De Black Shadow Daughter that is 10 months old now so we will have a lot of fun with her.

But anyway the most important thing about the BIS judging was that all of the dogs that made it to that part of the show were all very worthy to win that honor. I don't think I would have wanted to be in that judges shoes. I also loved the whippet as we are campaigning our granddaughters female whippet this coming year as well. :) I have attached a photo that I just love of Carissa with CJ it shows the fun that she has out there and how much she loves doing what she does. You can certainly tell how much the dog wants to please her. They are a spot on team. I am so sure that we will see more of Carissa with more great dobermans in the future.

Yes, I also just read that she is retiring from a google news digest I get. That's a dissappointment, but I was not aware she was 4 yrs already! I can certainly understand the desire to retire for breeding/family life purposes, especially after doing so well- she has earned it a few times over! :)
I also was struck by how much fun Carissa seemed to have with CJ, and to me that goes to the heart of dog ownership and speaks volumes about her style and committment.
You are absolutely right about the BIS judging, all the dogs were great- there did seem to be something about each that would've merited the win. But I still think CJ should've got it.:D

Got it and joined, thanks! I will be lurking for the most part as I am a rank newbie to the show world, but may occasionally post a question or two as I find the whole breeding/lines subject fascinating. For now I am satisfied to just watch/listen/learn, until the time comes when such a huge committment becomes possible for me... :)

I read that PETA put down 95% of the rescue. Guess they think going to dog shows saves dogs. I respect real rescues but not advertising, salaries, lawyers, and tickets to the garden. I guess they think 5% IS enough. GRrrrrr

I personaly do not contribute money to ANY organization that is involved with breed specific legislation.

I totally agree. Rescue money should go to save rescues not on a NYC protest during Cj's moment.......love the handlers face....she was having the time of her life and her dobie knew it! wow

RKCM - I picked the Boxer to win the group the minute he walked into the ring. Although I do always pull for the Dobe there just did not seem to be that spark this year. CJ is a beautiful girl but that boxer owned that ring from the minute he walked in. I hoped he would beat the Scotty but I was not expecting it. The Scotty was electric IMHO.

Rhiannon I did like the whippet but since I have never had any association with them of course allowed my prejudice to shine thorugh. Hope you will forgive. Guess now we can just imagine what it would be like to judge a group of dogs when you are the breeder of one breed.

Yes, she was beautiful and so good for the breed to have a doberman in the group for people to see. I was pulling for her too but when you get in the BIS Company at the garden, they all are all tremendous examples of the breed. Just the judges opinion and really can't be wrong with those choices.

Sorry Dobs4ever but I disagree. It would of been the doberman, then the toy poodle...........of course, being BIS there was only one and they got it right. LOL

All were great dogs.......beautiful examples of their breed. ;)
