Thought I would post some info on supplements since I have not seen it posted here.
Purchase the book All you ever wanted to know about herbs for pets by Mary L. Wulff-Tilford and Gregory L. Tilford. and learn how herbs can stimulate the liver, herbs such as Yellow Dock, burdock, calendula corn silk, milk thistle, dandelion, goldenseal, oregon grape.. These are all great herbs for the liver and they also help the digestive tract & skin..
As with so many herbs (Milk Thistle), as long as the dose is moderate, I recommend a
three weeks on and one week off cycle. If higher doses are used a two
week on-two week off cycle may be more appropriate. There are lots of
ways to cycle, another favorite of mine being five days on-two days
off. The primary consideration is to take some kind of a break every
so often. As long as I have been using Milk Thistle products, I was told that
when using as a preventative, pulse. When treating for a known condition,
one can forgo pulsing with the guidance of a holistic vet/practitioner. If
you don't pulse when there is only a possibility of a condition, you can
create one.
Daily regimine:
Fish oil - good for the coat but good for the heart muscle this makes it a biggy for me.
zinc - often people and dobes are lacking in this - it is great for the heart and liver (it takes up some of the space that could go to copper storage so this makes it good as a preventative for copper toxosis.
Vitamin C - great anitoxidant -
Alfalfa good especially if they have pano
Supplements for CARDIO
give Celated Magnesium, L-Carnitine & Taurine twice daily.
Due to their predisposition to irregular heart rhythms I
think, along with Omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium could be an
incredibly important supplement for Doberman Pinschers. I start mine
somewhere between one and two years old. I also give them a gram of
Taurine a day and CoEnzyme Q10.
This is info I have colellected through the years from some wholistic Doberman owners.
